Brandon Aiyuk played 'last snap' with 49ers, says GM

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said that it's "safe to say [wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk] played his last snap" with the team.

Fantasy Impact

Aiyuk ended his 2024 season on the injured reserve after he tore his ACL and MCL in October. He opened 2025 on the Physically Unable to Perform list and never played a snap after reportedly stepping away from the team. In December, he was placed on the reserve/left squad list, ending his year. He does not seem likely to remain with the 49ers in 2026, and his status around the league is up in the air after an unceremonious exit.

Brandon Aiyuk will not return for the 49ers this season

Brandon Aiyuk has been placed on the reserve/left squad list by the 49ers.

Fantasy Impact

This move by the 49ers ultimately ends any hope of Aiyuk making a late-season return. The two sides have been at odds for a while now, and the team has simply decided to move on. Aiyuk will have the chance to sign with a new team during the upcoming offseason.

Brandon Aiyuk (knee) 'hopeful' to play this season per GM John Lynch

49ers GM John Lynch said he’s “hopeful” WR Brandon Aiyuk will play for the team this season.

Fantasy Impact

Lynch couldn't fully commit to Aiyuk playing this season, but he said he is hopeful. He will not have his practice window opened this week.

Brandon Aiyuk has 2026 guarantees voided, set to be released

Brandon Aiyuk will have his 2026 guarantees voided by the 49ers because he did not hold up his end of his contract. The move puts him on track to be released at the end of the season.

Fantasy Impact

This is massive news for the 49ers, especially after being just over a year removed from signing a 4-year, $120 million deal with Aiyuk in 2024 after a messy holdout. The talented receiver should have a market in 2026, but one has to wonder if he will get anything close to what he would have gotten on his deal with the Niners. San Francisco will look to bolster their receiving room through free agency and the draft, as well as potentially re-signing current vets like Jauan Jennings to new deals.
