Brandon Aiyuk selected No. 25 by San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have selected wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk with the No. 25 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after acquiring the pick from the Minnesota Vikings.

Fantasy Impact

The wide receiver run continues as San Francisco takes Aiyuk out of Arizona State. The 22-year-old only runs a 4.50 but makes up for it as a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Aiyuk has a huge catch radius and also supplements his value with production in the kick return game. The knock on Aiyuk is that he needs to expand his route tree but one would think Kyle Shannahan will help scheme him open. This is ultimately a nice landing spot for his fantasy value.

Brandon Aiyuk underwent core-muscle surgery Tuesday

Per sources, Arizona State WR Brandon Aiyuk underwent core-muscle surgery today. He has skyrocketed up draft boards of late, and is even being considered a potential first-round pick.

Fantasy Impact

Aiyuk has apparently been dealing with the issue for a few months, and decided to get surgery now with no planned workouts on the horizon. This news shouldn’t scare teams away from the talented WR, and it’s looking like his name could possibly be called on the first night of the NFL Draft after Adam Caplan came out yesterday and said that Aiyuk has “no holes in his game” and “big-play ability.”

Brandon Aiyuk beginning to generate first-round buzz

On Twitter on Monday afternoon, NFL insider Adam Caplan said that the more NFL wide receiver coaches he speaks to, the more he believes that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft later this month.

Fantasy Impact

Aiyuk hasn't been mentioned in the top tier of wide receivers in this draft that includes Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, and Henry Ruggs, but he has been in the conversation with several other wide receivers who are expected to be selected in the first two round of the draft. Caplan adds that Aiyuk "has no holes in his game," and that combined with his big-play ability could push him into the first-round conversation ahead of wide receivers like Justin Jefferson, Tee Higgins, Laviska Shenault, and Denzel Mims.

Brandon Aiyuk runs a 4.50 40-yard dash

Brandon Aiyuk (6'0/205) runs a 4.50 40-yard dash at the 2020 NFL Combine.

Fantasy Impact

Brandon Aiyuk is a name that NFL Draft media is absolutely in love with...since the CFB season ended, there have been mocks that have consistently put him in round one. Aiyuk's tape shows a smooth athlete with great ability after the catch, but he's an extremely limited route-runner. At this point in his development, Aiyuk seems to only excel truly on go routes downfield. He's a terrific punt returner, but seems to lack refinement in the more nuanced areas of the WR position. Aiyuk's draft capital is going to be very hard to predict, especially after Aiyuk ran a bit slower than people were projecting. He can be a lethal weapon for an offense, if given the time to develop, but he's going to be a boom-or-bust prospect for Dynasty rosters.
