QB - JAC
Week 7 Outlook
The Jaguars have concluded their visit with free agent quarterback C.J. Beathard and are expected to sign him.
Beathard adds more depth for the Jaguars with Mike Glennon gone. Still, it does crowd a quarterback room that features Beathard, Gardner Minshew, and Jake Luton. Of course, all signs point to Jacksonville drafting Trevor Lawrence, too. Nevertheless, this is likely a very low-risk deal that pays minimal money if Beathard doesn't make the team out of training camp. Over 19 games (12 starts), the former 49ers passer is 2-10 with 291 completions for 3,469 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
Former San Francisco 49ers and current free-agent QB C.J. Beathard is being hosted for a tryout by the Jacksonville Jaguars, per Ian Rapoport.
Beathard enters his fifth season as a free-agent and will attempt to earn a roster spot with the Jaguars via tryout. Beathard stepped in for relief duties during the last six games of the 2020 season for San Francisco, throwing for six touchdowns and zero interceptions with an impressive 105.7 passer rating. Jaguars' head coach Urban Meyer is looking to add depth at the most important position on the team, as most expect the newcomer to use the No.1 overall draft pick on Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence next month. Rumors of QB Gardner Minshew III being inquired about from other teams have also surfaced over the last few days, making the quarterback room a very interesting focal point to keep eye on under the new regime in Jacksonville.
C.J. Beathard completed 25-of-37 passes for 273 yards and one touchdown while adding 10 yards on three rush attempts during the 49ers loss to the Seahawks in Week 17.
Beathard has done a nice real life job filling in for Jimmy Garoppolo, though it rarely translated to fantasy. He has a good chance to enter the following season third on the depth chart and irrelevant in fantasy.
C.J. Beathard completed 13-of-22 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns and gained an additional 18 yards on three rushing attempts during the 49ers 20-12 win over the Cardinals in Week 16.
Getting the start over Nick Mullens, Beathard was impressive from an efficiency standpoint. He managed to throw three touchdowns on only 22 attempts and finished with a 125.4 passer rating. He did lose a fumble but overall his efforts helped the 49ers secure the victory. He will likely be under center once again against the Seahawks in Week 17 and will be on the streaming radar.
San Francisco 49ers QB C.J. Beathard is expected to start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16.
Beathard replaced injured QB Nick Mullens and managed to complete five of seven passes for 71 yards and touchdown in a losing effort against the Cowboys in Week 15. Due to COVID-19 protocols and injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Nick Mullens, Beathard will be the lone quarterback on the roster unless the 49ers opt to pick-up a practice squad quarterback from a different team in the league. Due to this circumstance, Beathard is expected to remain the starter to finish out the 2020 season.
