C. J. Beathard will serve as backup for the 49ers

San Francisco’s starting QB on Thursday night against the Oakland Raiders will be Nick Mullens. C.J. Beathard will serve as his backup, but with his wrist injury affecting his grip on the football, Mullens will make his first NFL start and throw his first NFL pass.

Fantasy Impact

Fantasy owners that were counting on Beathard for Thursday night should be grabbing Mullens now. But neither quarterback is fantasy relevant and should only be considered in deep two QB leagues.

C.J. Beathard struggling to grip football, is now '50-50' for tonight

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard is “truly 50-50 for tonight’s game (vs. Raiders)” due to a wrist injury that has left him struggling to grip football.

Fantasy Impact

Beathard is probably going to work out before Thursday night's game against the Raiders to see if he is able to go, meaning he is very questionable right now. If Beathard is unable to play, Nick Mullens will start for San Francisco. Neither should be considered except in deeper leagues, but Beathard owners who were planning on starting him tonight should grab Mullens just in case.

C.J. Beathard expected to play Week 9

C.J. Beathard is questionable to play Week 9 on the team's injury report, but beat writer Matt Barrows believes he will play.

Fantasy Impact

Beathard is dealing with a wrist injury, but he seems like he'll push to play against the Raiders. Given the injury, the Thursday night game, and Beathard's overall struggles this season, he's not much of an option for streaming purposes, even in a big bye week.

C.J. Beathard a game-time decision for Week 9

49ers beat writer Joe Fann is reporting QB C.J. Beathard (wrist) is a game-time decision for Week 9.

Fantasy Impact

With Beathard dealing with a wrist injury and the 49ers playing on a short week, Fann believes there is a "good chance" Nick Mullens is under center for the 49ers in Thursday night's Week 9 opener against the Raiders. If Beathard, who injured his wrist last week against the Cardinals, is ultimately ruled out, the injury-plagued 49ers will start a UDFA quarterback who has yet to take an NFL snap. Things can only go up from here.

C.J. Beathard does little in Week 8 loss

C.J. Beathard completed 14-of-28 pass attempts for 190 yards and a touchdown as the 49ers lost to the Cardinals 18-15 in Week 8.

Fantasy Impact

Beathard has now underwhelmed in two straight weeks. It’s not a good situation when you have a subpar quarterback surrounded by subpar talent, however. Beathard draws the Oakland Raiders in Week 9 and will be a low end QB2 option for that one.
