This Week Outlook
Shaquille Leonard underwent successful back surgery Tuesday morning. The surgery will end his 2022 season.
Leonard has had issues with multiple injuries this season, but has dealt with a back issue since last season. The star linebacker suited up for three games this season and was already on injured reserve. The Colts' defense is definitely better with Leonard on the field and the team hopes he will make a full recovery and be available in 2023.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, LB Shaquille Leonard will be placed on injured reserve and miss at minimum his next four games.
Leonard has been in and out of the lineup all season as he's dealt with a bevy of injuries. After receiving a setback, though, he will go on injured reserve and miss four games. Leonard has played just three games this year, and the Colts are prioritizing his recovery. The Colts have been middling in both scoring defense and turnovers, so losing Leonard hurts, though they've been without him nearly the whole season.
Shaquille Leonard was downgraded to out on Friday against of the Colts' Week 10 tilt with the Raiders.
Leonard returned to action against the Patriots last week, but found himself banged up enough to be missing this week's action. The leader of the Indianapolis defense will be missed against Derek Carr and company in what will be new HC Jeff Saturday's NFL coaching debut.
Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich said that LB Shaquille Leonard will play Sunday against Washington after being sidelined with an injury.
Leonard has played just one game this season in Week 4, which he left early. Leonard will make his return for Week 8, providing playmaking ability in the box for Indy. The Colts could use Leonard against a team with multiple talented running backs like Washington.
According to PFF's Ari Meirov, LB Shaquille Leonard will miss Week 7's contest with the Tennessee Titans.
Leonard has only played one game this season after opening the year injured and suffering a concussion in his return. While he seemed to be good to go, the Colts are holding him back out of precaution. The Colts have struggled, but their defense has been solid this season. Leonard's playmaking ability will be missed, but the Colts have functioned well enough defensively without him so far.
