WR - SF
Week 7 Outlook
Deebo Samuel caught all six of his targets for 66 yards and a touchdown during the 49ers' 24-16 win over the Rams' in Week 6.
Samuel was featured early and often, as Jimmy Garoppolo found him twice for 41 yards and a touchdown on the teams opening drive. Although, he only managed to post four receptions for 25 yards throughout the remaining three-and-a-half quarters, it was encouraging to see him operate ahead of rookie Brandon Aiyuk, who only saw three targets. After missing the first three games of the season, Samuel appears to be finding his groove ahead of a Week 7 date against the Patriots where he should be viewed as a high-upside WR3.
Deebo Samuel only managed to catch 2-of-8 targets for 19 yards while adding an additional three yards on his lone rushing attempt during the 49ers' 17-43 loss in Week 5.
While his final line looks abysmal, it is mainly the product of poor quarterback play as Samuel rarely saw a catch-able target all afternoon. He did manage to tie George Kittle for a team-leading eight targets which is encouraging but with Brandon Aiyuk factoring in as well, Samuel's floor may be a bit lower than years past. Due to the current state of this offense, Samuel should be more on the WR3/WR4 spectrum heading into Week 6.
Deebo Samuel will be active for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins.
Samuel made his season debut last week and pulled in three catches for 35 yards. He'll look to step up his performance with Jimmy Garoppolo plugged back in under center this week.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero is reporting 49ers WR Deebo Samuel (illness) is expected to play in Week 5.
Samuel is dealing with a non-COVID-related illness and has passed the league protocols to play. He is in line to do just that and is expected to be up for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins. While the Miami defense is trending in the right direction, they have four defensive backs on the injury report including Byron Jones and Xavien Howard and should have their hands full with the 49ers now fully healthy with their pass-catching arsenal. Samuel is in the WR2 conversation in Week 5 who could go off in his second game back from injury.
Deebo Samuel popped up on the injury report with an illness, and although coach Kyle Shanahan said he is "feeling great," he will need to clear protocols to be able to re-enter the 49er's building.
Luckily Samuel has not tested positive for COVID-19 so he has a chance to play this week. His status should be monitored prior to Sunday's kickoff against Miami. Even if he is able to play, he would land in WR4 territory.
