Derrius Guice (knee) headed to IR

Derrius Guice is headed to the IR following knee surgery earlier in the week to repair a torn meniscus.

Fantasy Impact

Guice is eligible to return after eight weeks, but given his extensive injury history, it’s not a guarantee he takes the field for Washington at all this season. Adrian Peterson will start Week 2 and presumably beyond, with Chris Thompson shouldering a larger load as well. Wendell Smallwood has a chance to earn backup snaps, and the Redskins may sign or trade for another back for depth.

Derrius Guice (knee) out indefinitely following meniscus surgery

Derrius Guice underwent surgery to trim his torn meniscus Thursday and is out indefinitely, Ian Rapoport reports.

Fantasy Impact

It’s a worst case scenario for Guice, who remains in Pensacola, FL with specialist Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation. The original 6-8 week timeframe for his recovery has quickly changed to “indefinitely,” and he’s a safe drop in redraft formats. Adrian Peterson will start Week 2, with Chris Thompson chipping in some carries and occupying his typical passing-downs role. Washington is likely to explore options to sign or trade for another back in light of Guice’s procedure.

Derrius Guice (knee) could miss 6-8 weeks

Guice will seek a second opinion on his torn meniscus from Dr. James Andrews, and could miss 6-to-8 weeks in the "likely event" he undergoes surgery, according to Schefter.

Fantasy Impact

Guice can't catch a break on the injury front after missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL in his other knee. More importantly for fantasy owners, this likely means an extended run of early-down work for Adrian Peterson while Chris Thompson will also see an uptick in work on passing downs.

Derrius Guice to miss time after receiving an MRI on his knee Monday

Washington running back Derrius Guice had an MRI on "his other, non-ACL knee" on Monday and is likely to miss some time, according to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The team is doing a full evaluation but hopes he will not need surgery. Rapoport adds that the knee currently receiving an MRI is the same knee that Guice injured in college.

Fantasy Impact

This is major news after Guice missed all of last season after tearing the ACL in his other knee. It is not yet clear exactly what the injury to his other knee is, but it sounds like the results of the MRI were concerning. Look for more updates on his status as the team continues to gather more information, but expect to be without Guice for at least Week 2 against the Cowboys. If Guice misses time, Adrian Peterson could return to the starting lineup in Washington.

Derrius Guice gets shut down by Eagles defense on Sunday

Washington running back Derrius Guice rushed 10 times for 18 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards in Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Impact

The Eagles have one of the best front sevens in football, and Guice struggled to find running room on Sunday. The encouraging news is that he was clearly the primary back on Sunday, something head coach Jay Gruden hinted about heading into the weekend.
