Jakeem Grant Sr. (patella) out for the season

Browns WR Jakeem Grant Sr. is out for the 2023 season with a ruptured patellar tendon.

Fantasy Impact

Grant was injured and carted off the field during the Browns final preseason game against the Chiefs. An MRI revealed that Grant will indeed miss the 2023 season, a massive blow for the Browns’ special teams unit. The 30-year-old speedster has now suffered back-to-back season ending injuries and will look to return to full health in 2024.

Jakeem Grant suffers a possible broken patella in his knee

Jakeem Grant suffered a possible broken patella in his knee in Saturday's preseason game.

Fantasy Impact

Jakeem Grant has been one of the best and fastest punt returners in the league for the last couple of years. Grant was on the Dolphins from 2016-2021, and in that span, he became a very reliable punt returner and a serviceable slot receiver.

Jakeem Grant Sr. was carted off the field Saturday with an air cast on his right leg.

Fantasy Impact

The severity of the injury is unclear, but an early indication is that he may be looking at a long absence. He was a likely candidate to return kicks for the Browns, so Donovan Peoples-Jones and Jerome Ford would be potential fill-ins.

Jakeem Grant Sr. out for the season

Per Ian Rapoport, it has been confirmed that the Browns' WR and return specialist Jakeem Grant has officially torn his Achilles and is out for the season.

Fantasy Impact

After earning his second straight All-Pro honor and a Pro Bowl nod as a punt returner in 2021, reports were positive coming out of the Browns’ training camp thus far for Grant, who seemed to be making a push for more snaps as a pass-catcher while also being their go-to return man on special teams. Unfortunately, the recent news of a confirmed torn Achilles will bring his season to an end. The six-year veteran was the only player listed as a punt returner and kick returner on Monday when the Browns released their first unofficial depth chart. Demetric Felton is among the top candidates to replace Grant in those roles but Cleveland will undoubtedly be impacted by his loss, especially in the return game.

Jakeem Grant feared to have torn Achilles

According to Ian Rapoport, Cleveland Browns WR Jakeem Grant, who suffered an injury during practice, is feared to have torn his Achilles. He will have tests to confirm, but the All-Pro returner may be out for the season.

Fantasy Impact

Grant earned his second consecutive All-Pro nod as a returner last season playing for both the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. Although Grant has never been super involved in the passing game over his career, the Browns were reportedly interested in giving him a bigger role, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe. The Browns don't have someone to match Grant's dynamism but could turn toward WR Anthony Schwartz and his speed, who is also recovering from an injury.
