RB - DEN
Week 2 Outlook
Broncos rookie RB Javonte Williams rushed 14 times for 45 yards and added one reception for -4 yards in Sunday's win over the Giants.
Williams wasn't effective on Sunday, averaging a measly 3.2 yards per carry, but his usage was encouraging. He out-touched Melvin Gordon by one in his first game. While, for the time being, Williams can be considered a low-end FLEX, the expectation is that he can take over the lion's share of the snaps later in the season.
Javonte Williams rushed seven times for 20 yards and secured one of two targets for five yards in the Broncos' 30-3 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday night. He also fumbled into the end zone, where it was recovered by offensive lineman Dalton Risner for a touchdown.
Williams picked up the start with Melvin Gordon dealing with a groin injury. The rookie running back could see plenty of action in Week 1 if Gordon is not back to full health. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the situation.
Denver Broncos rookie RB Javonte Williams carried five times for 29 yards during Saturday's 33-6 preseason Game 1 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Williams was efficient with his limited carries, averaging 5.8 YPC, displaying a confident elusiveness and burst of speed when finding the running lane. Expect the rookie's ADP to continue rising into the fifth round, as he is currently valued as the RB26 in half-PPR formats.
Ryan O'Halloran of the Denver Post said rookie RB Javonte Williams could be the Broncos' Week 1 starter.
O'Halloran believes that Denver wouldn't have traded up in to the second round to take a running back who wasn't going to be their top guy. The Dolphins were rumored to have been interested in Williams, and the Broncos wanted to make sure they landed him. Regardless of whether or not he actually receives the Week 1 start, most everyone believes he'll usurp Melvin Gordon as the year goes on.
The Denver Broncos have selected RB Javonte Williams with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Broncos traded with the Falcons to select North Carolina RB Javonte Williams. Denver traded the 40th and the 114th pick to the Falcons in exchange for the 35th and 219th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Williams is an incredibly strong runner and an effective pass catcher. He rushed for 1,140 yards and 19 touchdowns while hauling in 25 receptions for 305 yards and three touchdowns in his final season in North Carolina. Williams will compete with veteran RB Melvin Gordon for the Broncos primary RB role.
