Kwon Alexander
LB - FA
2023 Outlook
The New York Jets are signing one-time Pro Bowl LB Kwon Alexander to a one-year deal.
Fantasy Impact
Alexander is entering his eighth NFL season but has seen a decrease in production since his first three seasons in the league. Alexander has struggled with injuries playing more than 12 games in a season just once. In limited snaps though, Alexander has still been a solid pass defender recently, having career stats of eight interceptions and 32 passes defended. Alexander is already familiar with the Jets' defense as well. He played under head coach Robert Saleh in San Francisco for 13 games when Saleh was the 49ers' defensive coordinator.
Free-agent LB Kwon Alexander and the Saints have agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million.
Fantasy Impact
Alexander played with the Saints last season before being released in March in order to save more than $13M. Alexander was first traded to the Saints in November of 2020. He played in seven regular season games, tallying 27 tackles, before rupturing his Achilles. Re-signing him will go a long way in helping the Saints defense find depth after a long offseason of losses. Alexander remains far from the playmaker he was with Tampa Bay years ago, and until he’s seen healthy and making plays he can be left on waivers in all IDP leagues.
Free-agent LB Kwon Alexander visited his former team, the New Orleans Saints, on Tuesday.
Fantasy Impact
Alexander started seven games for the Saints last year after being traded from the 49ers. He tore his Achilles in week 16. The Saints are likely bringing Alexander in to see where he is in recovery. Alexander has been a good player, but his future is murky as Achillies' injuries are hard to come back from.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the New Orleans Saints are expected to release LB Kwon Alexander “in the coming days”.
Fantasy Impact
Add Alexander to the list of veterans the Saints will cut as they try to navigate one of the worst cap situations in the NFL. The expected release will save the Saints more than $13M with no dead cap. Alexander joined the Saints in November of 2020 via trade, but only managed to play in seven regular season games finishing with 27 tackles prior to his Achilles injury. This move will go a long way in helping the Saints create cap space especially if they want to be players in free agency.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the 49ers traded LB Kwon Alexander to the New Orleans Saints.
Fantasy Impact
The 49ers are receiving LB Kiko Alonso and a conditional fifth-round pick in exchange for Alexander. The 26-year-old will help boost the Saints' linebacker corps.
