QB - ARI
Kyler Murray's fifth-year option has been picked up by the Arizona Cardinals, according to Ian Rapoport.
This move is no surprise as Murray has been named to two Pro Bowls in his first three seasons in the NFL. While he is now locked into Arizona for the next two years, all eyes will be on if the two sides can agree to a long-term contract extension.
Kyler Murray has "zero chance" of getting traded, as stated by Steve Keim, according to Ari Meirov.
Keim, the GM of the Cardinals, said this when asked if there was a chance Murray got traded this offseason. Murray still wants a new contract, and this situation will be one worth monitoring throughout the offseason.
Kyler Murray will not attend the Arizona Cardinals offseason workout program.
Ian Rapoport reported that this has been communicated as the plan for several weeks, so it appears this has nothing to do with Murray holding out. Nonetheless, that remains a topic to monitor for Murray as the offseason continues to progress.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Thursday that Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who’s scheduled to make approximately $5.5 million in 2022, is not expected to play next season unless he receives a new contract from Arizona.
Murray, who’s been nothing short of electrifying while healthy and playing, will be entering his 4th season in the league in 2022. Murray’s rushing ability at the QB position has been the key to his success from a fantasy perspective, as it provides him with a high floor and a high ceiling and has largely been the reason why he’s been able to finish as a QB1 each season he’s played in the NFL. Although he’s never thrown for more than 4,000 yards or 26 touchdowns in a season, his ability to move the chains and lead a high scoring offense has allowed him to support high end skilled position players in fantasy during the first three years of his career. If Murray and the Cardinals were to come to a stalemate and Murray did sit out games, Arizona would be forced to turn to Colt McCoy or Trace McSorley. Both players are quality backups, but Arizona’s offense would likely take a dip in production, which in turn would negatively affect the fantasy production of James Conner, DeAndre Hopkins, and Zach Ertz.
The Arizona Cardinals aren't taking trade calls for quarterback Kyler Murray.
The former first-overall pick has had a lot of drama with the team over the past few weeks, but this news reinforces that the Cardinals want him back. The Oklahoma product is in line for a contract extension soon, and it looks like they are getting closer making that happen.
