Mario Edwards Jr.
DE - Houston Texans
2024 Outlook
The Houston Texans signed Mario Edwards Jr. on a one-year deal.
Fantasy Impact
Edwards recorded 2.5 sacks and 21 tackles with the Seahawks last season. He should add depth to the defensive line for Houston.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Bears have re-signed DE Mario Edwards to a three year deal.
Fantasy Impact
Coming off a four sack season in 2020, Edwards is re-signing with the Bears on a three-year deal reportedly worth $11.55M. The 27-year old had gone through several teams prior to landing with the Bears, but looks to have impressed enough to stick around. The move ensures Chicago will have options on the defensive line as they strive to keep the unit a strength of their team.
The Giants claimed defensive end Mario Edwards off waivers Sunday, one day after his release from the Raiders.
Fantasy Impact
The Raiders had been shopping Edwards but were unable to find any takers. Since being selected 35th overall in 2015, Edwards has struggled with consistency, particularly as a pass-rusher. Prior to his release it was reported that the Raiders had "been frustrated by him.” In three seasons in Oakland, Edwards played in 30 games (24 starts), recording 5.5 sacks. If he’s able to find consistency, he could play himself into a rotational role in the Giants new 3-4 scheme.
Mario Edwards is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a strained hip on Friday night against the Cardinals.
Fantasy Impact
Last season Edwards recorded 33 tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble for the Raiders defense. Losing Edwards certainly hurts but having Bruce Irvin playing opposite Mack eases the pain a bit. At most I would drop the Raiders D/ST one ranking but come down to it, I would draft them over majority of others.
Oakland Raiders DE Mario Edwards (hip) was carted off the field in Friday night's preseason opener with an apparent hip injury. Early reports indicate that the ailment is "not serious" according to beat writer Vic Tafur.
Fantasy Impact
Oakland's D/ST could take a serious leap in 2016 for fantasy football purposes. They are building a fierce front seven led by Khalil Mack and free agent acquisition Bruce Irvin. Oakland's D/ST should remain on the waiver wire to start the season, but could be added later in the year if the unit performs well.
