Richie James Jr.

Week 4 Outlook
49ers KR/WR Richie James (wrist) is expected to be cleared ahead of Week 1, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Two weeks ago it was reported that James wouldn’t be ready for the regular season opener, but now it sounds like he will be. James has been the 49ers primary kick returner the past two seasons, averaging 23.4 yards per return.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan recently told reporters that WR Richie James is not expected to be available to start the season.
James has been dealing with a wrist injury during the off-season and has not fully recovered. James had an opportunity to make an impact if Deebo Samuel and other 49ers receivers were injured to start the season, but is unlikely to have any fantasy relevance now.
The 49ers activated WR Richie James from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
The 24-year-old is still recovering from wrist surgery and is expected to be out until mid-August. He'll provide receiver depth for San Francisco this season.
49ers WR Richie James has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
While it can’t be disclosed whether or not James tested positive for the virus, he’s at least been in close contact with someone who has. He’ll likely be on the list for a couple of weeks prior to joining the team for workouts. James broke his wrist earlier this summer, so this is just another “setback” in his recovery. San Francisco is all of a sudden becoming thin at the WR position with both Deebo Samuel and James suffering injuries and/or being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
Richie James broke a bone his wrist while training and will be sidelined for two months.
James sustained the injury while training and will miss the next two months. He is mainly used on special teams, returning 33 punts for 264 yards and 20 kickoffs for 428 yards. The 49ers recently lost Deebo Samuel (foot) while training with teammates. The 49ers wide receiver depth suddenly becomes thin after losing two key players. James hauled in nine catches for 165 yards and a touchdown across 16 games last season. Look for Travis Benjamin and DJ Reed to get work in special teams with James sidelined.
