WR - LAR
Week 3 Outlook
Van Jefferson brought in four of five targets for 45 yards while adding one rush for negative yards during the Rams' Week 2 victory over the Eagles.
Jefferson was impressive on Sunday, tying Robert Woods and Tyler Higbee for second on the team in targets. Despite the impressive performance, he remains the fourth option in the passing game at best and the Rams' run-heavy approach won't provide him the volume he needs in order to be trusted in fantasy on a weekly basis. He is best viewed as a WR4 moving forward.
Van Jefferson hauled in one of three targets for 31 yards during the Rams' Week 1 victory over the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.
Playing in his first professional game, Jefferson hauled in a beautiful over-the-shoulder reception for 31 yards for his lone highlight. Other than that, he was relatively held in check. He rotated in and out with Josh Reynolds as the Rams' third receiver, though it may not take long before he takes most of Reynolds snaps. Jefferson should only be played in deep leagues but is a worthy bench stash if you have the ability, as Jared Goff has proven to be able to support three fantasy-relevant receivers in the past.
Van Jefferson is predicted to be Rams No. 3 WR over Josh Reynolds, per Jourdan Rodrigue of the Athletic.
Rodrigue believes Van Jefferson not Reynolds will be the Rams WR3 behind Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. "Woods, Kupp and Jefferson likely will take the dominant share of receiving looks this season," Rodrigue added. Van Jefferson was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old should be involved three-receiver sets, but is mainly a target in dynasty and deep-league formats.
Rams QB Jared Goff compared rookie wide receiver Van Jefferson to Cooper Kupp on Tuesday.
"He's been really impressive and has done a good job. It reminds me a lot of when Kupp was a rookie. He was just so far ahead of where a rookie kind of should be," Goff said. Jefferson was a surprising second-round pick by the Rams, but many scouts are impressed with his route running. Old for a rookie, the 24-year-old is competing with Josh Reynolds for No. 3 receiver duties.
Second-round pick out of Florida WR Van Jefferson has signed his four-year rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
Jefferson played two years at Ole Miss prior to transferring to Florida. In his two years as a Gator, Jefferson caught 84 balls for 1,160 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s expected to play the slot for the Rams but will likely begin his career as the fourth-man on the WR totem poll in LA behind Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, and Josh Reynolds.
