The Eagles had special teams struggles on Sunday, with running back Tank Bigsby and wide receiver John Metchie III having difficulties fielding the knuckleball kickoffs from Los Angeles Rams kicker Joshua Karty, who was putting the Eagles at a disadvantage in terms of field position. Gipson has been waived twice this season (by the Giants and Jets), but he has more direct experience as a returner, even if he has 10 career fumbles in 35 games.

Gipson lost a fumble late in the Jets close loss to the Steelers on Sunday, which looks like a big factor in the decision to release him. Gipson has failed to make much of a mark on the Jets since coming to the team in 2022, with his main usage coming from special teams. He’s lost 10 fumbles in that span, and even though this is a new coaching staff, it looks like they’ve seen enough.
