Everyone is excited about Derrius Guice returning from injury but let's not forget that Peterson still ran like a mad man last season despite no help on the offensive line or by the offense. He won't just disappear, and if Guice were to face another injury, Peterson might be able to snag 900+ rushing yards for the third consecutive season.

It's remarkable what Peterson's been able to do at 33 and 34 years old, compiling nearly 2,000 rushing yards over the last two seasons, but now 35 years old and in a new offense with tons of competition, it's hard to see him making a difference in fantasy football. He's still likely to command 8-12 carries per game and maybe get goal-line duties, so he could fill in for a few weeks in flex spots for those who are desperate.

Peterson admittedly continues to run well despite his advanced age, but given his situation, there's next to zero chance that he turns into someone you can start at any point. The Washington backfield consists of Peterson, Derrius Guice, Peyton Barber, J.D. McKissic, Antonio Gibson, and Bryce Love, and to the extent one back could break out of that pack, it's likely to be Guice. On a team going nowhere with a sub-par offense, there's no reason to waste a pick on Peterson.

While AP could still be a factor for fantasy football if he got the touches, it's unlikely to happen in this backfield this season. Peterson will still be heavily involved, but Derrius Guice is still on the roster and Washington invested draft capital in the electric playmaker, Antonio Gibson. Peterson's nothing more than a RB3/RB4 in 2020.

It's just possible Adrian Peterson somehow leads this backfield again. AD was very solid in 2019 and clearly still has the juice to be an NFL running back. While the sensible approach would be giving the many youngsters a proper chance, it's very possible Peterson stays involved as an irritant and possible fantasy starter. I'd personally avoid drafting him though.

35 years old - 2021 UFA, potential out 2020
