RB - LV
It's odd that Richard was re-signed to the Raiders roster when they said they wanted to get Josh Jacobs more involved in the passing game, as Richard is the primary competition. Not just that, but they then drafted running back/wide receiver Lynn Bowden in the second round. However we slice it, Richard isn't likely to top the 43 targets he got in 2019, which makes him a non-factor in fantasy leagues.
Richard is back with the Raiders for another season, but he's more of a thorn in the side for fantasy players than anything else. Richard isn't going to see enough passing volume to be relevant, but he's going to be involved enough in the offense to steal targets from Josh Jacobs. With the addition of Lynn Bowden too, it's unlikely that Richard ever sees enough work to be put into your fantasy lineup this season.
Richard saw a dip in production with Josh Jacobs on the roster, but he'll always be the passing-downs thorn in Jacobs' side. The Raiders gave Richard a two-year extension this offseason, so despite talk of Jacobs' added involvement in the passing game, Richard should continue to hold his role. Unfortunately, that role isn't worth that much, particularly with Lynn Bowden added to the mix. Richard is worth a look in extremely deep PPR formats, nothing more.
Jalen Richard was reduced to a pass-catcher in 2019 with Josh Jacobs and Deandre Washington combining for the vast majority of carries. Concerningly, that role is also on the rocks with Jacobs expected to improve his catching and Lynn Bowden brought in to mess things up further. Richard remains undraftable but may once again pop up as a waiver add in PPR once bye weeks or a Josh Jacobs injury occur.
The Raiders are giving Richard a 2-year deal worth $7 million, source said. He gets up to $8 million with $4.6 million fully guaranteed.
