Mostert is expected to be the lead back in this offense as long as he's healthy, but that's not exactly a guarantee. Mostert's only played a total of 31 games over the past three seasons and the 49ers know that they can't rely on him to start all 16 games. With the drafting of Sermon, the 49ers are signaling that Mostert's best fantasy days are behind him. To start the season, Mostert could produce some solid numbers for your lineup, but it seems inevitable that he's going to give up the starting job to the rookie RB eventually. If you do end up drafting Mostert, it's probably best to double back and snag Sermon to handcuff this backfield.

There's no denying it... when Mostert is healthy and on the field, he's a beast. He's turned 282 career carries into 1,590 yards and 11 touchdowns. But that's the issue, he's never healthy. There's a reason he's 29 years old and has just 282 carries on his frame. Have the 49ers lost patience? They traded up to draft Trey Sermon in the third round, which could indicate they're ready to move on from Mostert, or it could be them ensuring they have a high-quality backup for if/when he gets injured. Mostert tallied at least 14 carries in 5-of-8 starts last year, which is more than enough to get into RB2 territory with his efficiency, but you can't draft him as such when injuries/Sermon are factored in. He's not someone you can confidently draft as a starter for your fantasy team because there's so much unknown. However, if he gets the job back, this is a pick that can make a difference in fantasy leagues. The 49ers have one of the easiest schedules in the league, so if they let Mostert get rolling, he's unlikely to slow down.

Mostert is one of the most explosive runners in the NFL and a slept on 4.34 speedster. His new competition is a 3rd round rookie with 4.58 speed. He feels like one of the most fragile players in the NFL in my opinion, I've been avoiding him in drafts, he's the kind of back that I revesrve for DFS rosters.

Trey Sermon's addition has his starting role in serious jeopardy, but Mostert has always balled when offered the opportunity

Raheem Mostert will probably never reach his 2019 season peak. He was more of a back that was in the right system at the right time and there's plenty of competition in house with Wayne Gallman, Trey Sermon and eventually Jeffrey Wilson Jr. As a fantasy investment, Mostert has more questions than answers and that makes him limited in his fantasy upside. There are better picks at similar ADP at the position.
