It wasn't the rookie season that many expected out of Penny, who was drafted in the first-round by the Seahawks, but 2019 is looking up. Not only did the Seahawks let Mike Davis walk in free agency (he received 146 touches last year), but Chris Carson had some work done on his knee. The Seahawks are clearly a run-first team, meaning it's possible we see both Carson and Penny fantasy relevant. Worst case scenario, you have what might be the best handcuff in football

If you are looking for upside at the running back position in the mid-rounds, Penny may have the most you'll be able to find. Seattle is going to run run run again this season and if Carson's knee issue runs into the season, Penny might steal the job and never look back as an RB1 type performer. With that said, it is also possible he'll but a fantasy cut candidate in September.

I'm very excited about the upside of Penny this season. The Seahawks are going to run the ball a ton, and Penny has the chance to pass Carson as the 1A. Penny averaged 6 YPC, including 4.36 yards per carry after contact from week 9 on last season. Those each ranked 3rd among RB's with at least 40 carries over that time. His passing game role is going to be limited, but if something were to happen to Carson, then we're looking at a true three down back, on a run first offense. So, how likely is Carson to suffer an injury? Well, he's only been able to play in half of his career games due to injuries. Although most of that was time missed from his leg fracture. Ultimately, you should be drafting Penny for the talent, and the upside if he can win the starting job. And I believe that he can.
