Tyler Higbee
TE - LAR - IR
2022 Outlook
Since his legendary stretch run in 2019, Tyler Higbee has been a ho-hum option in fantasy football. Over the last two seasons, he's finished as the TE13 and TE20 in fantasy points per game. His yards per route run dipped to 1.23 (25th amongst tight ends) last year, which isn't a trend you want to see out of a fringe (at best) top 12-15 option at tight end. With Allen Robinson in town and Van Jefferson returning to compete for targets behind Cooper Kupp, the arrow for Higbee is pointing down. He's nothing more than a streaming option in 2022.
When Tyler Higbee came back from the COVID list he commanded at least 40 receiving yards along with of targets totals of 6, 9, 6,4 and 6. All in all, he averaged a 19% target share over the last four weeks after struggling to earn any worthwhile target share as afterthought in the Rams passing attack.
Considering Higbee is always on the field in LA's one-TE offense - 93% route participation the Divisonal round, 76% during 2021 - he will have productive outings in the confines of a high-powered offense.
He should be good to go by Week 1, barring any setbacks from his knee surgery.
For whatever reason (and maybe that reason is star WR Cooper Kupp), the Rams don't use their TEs much. They had a good one in Gerald Everett, but let him walk in free agency last year. Tyler Higbee showed flashes, but they just don't go his way enough. Even with an upgrade in Matthew Stafford at QB, fantasy owners were left asking what happened? It's hard to see Higbee doing better in 2022. Don't get stung by Higbee. Avoid
He hasn't been able to recapture his 2019 end-of-season magic, but Higbee's role as the primary TE in a strong offense gives him a sturdy floor, and he'll be cheap in 2022 drafts.
