As soon as Isaiah Crowell went down for the year, the Raiders knew they needed to fill the backup role, so they went out and re-signed Martin, who played well for them last year. He's most definitely the backup to Josh Jacobs, but we mustn't forget that Jacobs never carried the ball more than 100 times in a season while at Alabama, and that the workhorse role is something he may not hold up to. Should he struggle, Martin will have a bigger role than most think.

Doug Martin re-signs with Raiders

Doug Martin is re-signing with the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Impact

After becoming a free agent this offseason, Martin will re-sign with Oakland in the wake of Isaiah Crowell tearing his Achilles. Martin racked up 723 rushing yards and four rushing TDs on 4.2 yards per carry with the Raiders last season. Martin is already comfortable with the offense and may steal more work from rookie Josh Jacobs than Crowell would have, but it’s likely Martin plays primarily as a backup in 2019. He is a late-round flyer in redraft leagues as Jacobs’ primary handcuff.
