Alex Ovechkin agrees to one-year deal with Capitals

Alex Ovechkin has agreed to a one-year, $4.25 million contract to return to the Washington Capitals. (ESPN on Twitter)

Ovechkin’s deal includes a $4.75 million incentive if the superstar winger suits up for at least 10 games during the 2026-27 season. The veteran saw enough investment from the front office with the acquisitions of Alex Tuch and Jordan Kyrou to return to chase another Stanley Cup after posting 64 points (32 goals, 32 assists) over 82 contests in 2025-25 for head coach Spencer Carberry.
