John Carlson was held off the scoresheet in Washington’s double-overtime loss to Carolina Wednesday. He ends the playoffs with no goals, five assists, and 23 shots-on-goal.

Fantasy Impact: Carlson’s inability to find the back of the net this postseason comes as a bit of a surprise after leading the Capitals in shots during the playoffs, outpacing even Alex Ovechkin in the category. He enjoyed a spectacular 2018-2019 regular season, producing 13 goals, 57 assists, and 70 points, good for fourth among all defenseman. Carlson was underrated by many fantasy outlets heading into the season, but don’t count on that occurring again next year. He should be one of the first defensemen off the board in fantasy drafts. A repeat of 70 points might be asking a bit much, but Carlson should continue to provide plenty of production while quarterbacking a potent Washington power-play unit that features some of the premier talent in the NHL.

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored a goal in the second period during the Capitals Game 7 loss to Carolina Wednesday. He also added three shots-on-goal for the game. The loss ends the season for Kuznetsov and Washington.

Fantasy Impact: Kuznetsov finally broke out of his scoring slump, depositing his first, and only, goal of the playoffs after netting 12 during last season’s Cup run. Perhaps if he had found his scoring touch sooner the Capitals could have avoided a Game 7 entirely. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Russian forward provided solid fantasy production this past season, operating at close to a point-per-game pace over 76 games. Expect about 70 points again next season with the potential for a bit more if things go right for Kuznetsov. Centering Alex Ovechkin regularly would certainly help his prospects.

Alex Ovechkin registered an assist in Washington’s Game 7 double-overtime loss to Carolina Wednesday. He was also a minus-two with four shots-on-goal for the contest. Ovechkin ends the playoffs with four goals, five assists, and nine total points.

Fantasy Impact: Ovechkin’s assist came when he beat Carolina defender Jaccob Slavin with a beautiful toe-drag and found Tom Wilson for a first period goal. While his season ends on an incredibly sour note, the 33-year-old Russian superstar showed little sign of slowing down this season, recording his eighth-career 50-goal campaign. Ovechkin has not eclipsed 100 points since the 2009-2010 season but should continue to provide elite fantasy goal, shot, and power-play point totals moving forward, keeping him firmly in the first-round conversation for next season.

Braden Holtby surrendered four goals on 35 shots faced in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Hurricanes.

Fantasy Impact: Holtby has been very inconsistent this post-season allowing three or more goals in three of his last five starts. Hopefully for the Capital's sake he will be in solid form Wednesday night as they look to win Game Seven and face the Islanders in the second round of the playoffs. Holtby is currently 3-3-0 with a 2.68 GAA and a 0.916 SV% so far this post-season.

Tom Wilson scored his first goal of the 2019 playoffs to put the Capitals up 3-2 8:55 into the third period.

Fantasy Impact: Wilson is always a physical force on the ice which can be a headache for opposing teams to deal with. It even becomes more frustrating for opponents when he can also score against them as well. He will look to continue causing problems for the Hurricanes in Game Three Monday night.

T.J. Oshie scored a goal and provided an assist on the game-winning goal in OT by Brooks Orpik to put the Capitals up 2-0 in the series versus Carolina.

Fantasy Impact: After a rather quiet Game One performance, Oshie responded quite soundly with two crucial points in Saturday afternoon's OT win against the Hurricanes. He will look to continue this similar type of play Monday night in Carolina for Game Three of this series.

Hagelin helped T.J. Oshie in the first period as the Caps won 4-1 on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact: With four points in his last four games, Hagelin is productive with the Caps and has been moved up to the second line, apparently.

Jensen helped Tom Wilson in the first period as the Caps took it from the Flyers 3-1.

Fantasy Impact: This was Jensen's first point after a seven-game drought, so he should not be played in fantasy.

Fantasy Impact: Averaging under ten minutes of playing, Boyd has 19 points in 47 games. He is not a factor in fantasy.

Per Coach Reirdon, Kempny sustained the injury in Wednesday's game. He would not say Kempny's season is over. Christian Djoos will pair with John Carlson on defense. (Source: Brian McNally via Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: With 25 points in 71 games, Kempny is not a factor for fantasy players, though his +24 on the ice was very good for the Caps.

Copley allowed one goal in 21 shots as he had a fairly easy 4-1 win.

Fantasy Impact: With his record now at 16-5-0-3, GAA at .288 and save pct of .906, Copley is outstanding for a "backup" goalie.

Burakovsky put the Caps on the board in the first period as they defeated the Devils 4-1.

Fantasy Impact: Although he has been playing better and now has his 12th goal (after four pointless games), Burakovsky should not be played in fantasy.
