Sami Vatanen notched his 11th assist of the season on Egor Iakovlev’s goal in the 2nd period of the Devils 5-1 loss to Tampa on Monday night.
Sami Vatanen, when healthy, is an offensive asset at the defenseman position. Vatanen put up a couple of high-30 point total seasons while a member of the Anaheim Ducks. Vatanen still has that potential but needs to stay healthy to accomplish that. Vatanen, as always, is on the second power play unit so he will have the opportunity to utilize his skills fully. On the season, Vatanen has 1 goal and 10 assist through 23 games. Vatanen should be good for around 30 points for the season and has value in medium to deep fantasy leagues.
Vatanen helped Kyle Palmieri for a power play goal in the first period of Tuesday's 4-1 victory.
With two goals and 11 points in 34 games (-10), Vatanen is not having a great season but he is still getting ice time, so don't give up on him yet.
Vatanen helped Nico Hischier in the first period as the Flyers were defeated 3-2 by the Blues in a shootout.
With a four-game point streak going, fantasy players could take a look at Vatanen, although his overall stats are poor and he is -9 on the ice.
Vatanen helped Travis Zajac in the third period as the Devils lost 5-2 on Saturday.
The season so far has been a struggle for Vatanen, who has only eight points in 29 games and is -9 on the ice.
