Mallex Smith optioned to AAA Tacoma

Mallex Smith was optioned to AAA Tacoma on Tuesday after beginning the season with a brutal .165/.255./.247 slash line over 27 games. In a corresponding move, the Mariners recalled OF Braden Bishop. (Ryan Divish on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Smith owners who spent a high draft pick on the speedster have to be very disappointed in his start to the season and, of course, this recent development. Smith, turning 26 next week, is no longer a prospect. Those in shallow redraft leagues can likely drop Smith and move on. In deeper leagues where speed is scarce, owners may wish to remain patient and hope Smith can work out his issues quickly in the minors.
