Wei-Yin Chen salvages series for Orioles

by Jack Keenan | Thu, Jul 2nd 10:11am EDT

Wei-Yin Chen pithed eight strong innings on Wednesday night to deliver the Orioles a 4-2 win and avoid the sweep against the Rangers. Chen was efficient, recording 24 outs on just 87 pitches and giving up only four hits and one walk while striking out two. Chen settled down after giving up two solo home runs within his first four innings by only allowing one baserunner in his last four innings. Chen picked up his fourth win of the season and has lowered his ERA to 2.84 on the year.

Fantasy Impact:

Chen has been hot lately winning three of his last five starts and not allowing more than two earned runs since May 30th. Chen's 4-4 record is not indicative of how he's been pitching. Look for more wins to begin piling up if Chen continues his torrid pace. Chen isn't overpowering (78 strikeouts in 95 innings) but his electrifying ERA is more than enough reason to keep him in your starting lineup.
