Miguel Montero to be placed on 15-day disabled list

by Nathaniel Schwartz | Thu, Jul 16th 4:45pm EDT

Miguel Montero will officially be placed on the 15-day disabled list, however it is believed that he could miss up to six weeks. Montero jammed his thumb a few days before the break and will now be forced to see a specialist. The Cubs will bring up the All-Star Futures Game MVP Kyle Schwarber. (Carrie Muskat on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Montero had been having a very solid season, but slumped through the first half of July with a .182 batting average and a .250 OBP. While the promotion of the hot hitting Kyle Schwarber is certainly exciting, it has been reported that he will not be the everyday catcher due to defensive concerns. The Cubs will carry three catchers, David Ross, Taylor Teagarden, and Kyle Schwarber.
