The 28-year-old signed a minors pact with the Padres after making 32 trips to the plate with the Cardinals earlier this season. Mercado thrived with Triple-A El Paso in the Padres' system, hitting .339 with 10 homers, 10 stolen bases, and a 1.068 OPS across 31 games. He has elected free agency and is now free to sign with any other club.
