Bevell states Seahawks will remain a ground-based offense

Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell says that Seattle's run first mentality wont change much, stating “I think our plan has been pretty successful, We play great defense, we take great care of the football and we run the football, and that keeps us in games and allows us to exert our will on the opponent, that physical toughness that we like to do ... That’s our style and our philosophy and we are going to continue to do that". (The Seattle Times)

However, when asked if Russell Wilson could handle an expanded role, Bevell stated “He can definitely handle it, it’s just that we don’t ask him to do it. We don’t really rely on one player to really carry anything. ... it’s just not an offense that we do to drop back 50 times a game. But can we? We absolutely could. Could he handle it? He can absolutely handle it”. Wilson has never exceeded 37 pass attempts in a game, and has gone over the 30 attempt threshold only 7 times in his career. Despite this lack of opportunities, Wilson has been a reliable low-end QB1 and stands to benefit if there is any slip in quality of the running attack or the defense. While there may not be enough passing volume to vault Wilson into un-benchable territory, there is a high probability that he will outplay his QB13 average draft position.
