Alex Smith unimpressive in preseason opener

Alex Smith was mostly ineffective in the Chiefs preseason opener against the Bengals. Smith only played the 3 series for the Chiefs, in which he went 3-5 for 19 yards and a lost fumble on his second series of the game.
Fantasy Impact:
The Chiefs need Smith to build on the success he had last year to have a chance to compete in 2014. Smith is a QB2, or a bye week filler at this point. Smith is hoping to land a contract extension, but the Chiefs do not seem willing to overpay for him.
