49ers looking for extension with Michael Wilhoite

After the gruesome injury to All-Pro Navorro Bowman in the NFC Championship game 2 seasons ago, ILB Michael Wilhoite had big shoes to fill in the 2014 season. Alongside legendary ILB Patrick Willis, Wilhoite was deemed a solid backup to the injured Bowman. The 2014 season was a rollercoaster for the 49ers, but the linebacker core of the team was never a doubted position, until the season ended. Patrick Willis called it a career, pretty much out of nowhere, and then first-year rookie sensation Chris Borland retired shortly after due to safety concerns. Just like that, the 49ers went from looking to trade Wilhoite to trying to hang on to him. General Manager Trent Baalke recently commented that the 49ers are looking to reach an extension with Wilhoite to keep him in the Bay Area. (Taylor Price of 49ers on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Whether the 49ers reach a deal with Wilhoite or not, the 49ers will still look to draft a linebacker in the upcoming draft. Wilhoite is by no means the Willis replacement, but he keeps this 49ers defense strong. The San Francisco 49ers have prided themselves on having a strong defense, and their D/ST will once again be a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
