Legion Report
Richardson will be given a short leash in INDI this season. Both fantasy owners and the Colts organization are grabbing anything they can to point the blame at Richardson’s awful 2013 performance. Ironically, Indi has shifted media attention from Richardson lacking instinct to him not being completely comfortable or understanding the offense after being traded. Pagano said he wants a “bellcow” back this year in Indi as Richardson looks to reclaim his 3rd overall pick value. Indi has casted early support on Richardson and he will get every opportunity to produce. Consider Richardson a RB3 in 2014.
There are a couple things that pop out to us when analyzing Antonio Gates for 2014 … Number 1: Head Coach – Mike McCoy transitioned the offense from a quick-hitting passing attack to a more heavy run offense, as Rivers threw for 30+ Passing Attempts only once in the final six games of the season. Number 2: Ladarius Green – See below 2 inches. Green played on 59.7% of the Chargers’ offensive snaps over the final 7 games of last year, but stayed in to block 60.5% of the time. The Chargers continuously report that Green is taking more steps in his developmental process and will be a larger part of the offense in 2014. Number 3: Over the final 8 Games in 2013, Gates averaged 3.6 Receptions Per Game. As the season wore on, Gates’ production dwindled to dismal levels than that of where he was to begin the season. Ultimately: Due to the run heavy offense, consistent injury history, position competition within San Diego, age and dwindling production – we view Gates as a solid back-up TE for fantasy managers in 2014.

No competition and a year to learn the playbook, I'm actually buying the '3 down back' speak the Colts are putting out there.
I get the excitement about Ladarius Green, but at least at this early stage of the offseason I'm not ready to ignore a productive season from the slow-footed, sure-handed Gates.

Do you like to gamble for a player with upside? Richardson had a horrible 2013, but I would love to gamble on Richardson as an RB with only Ballard and Bradshaw behind him.
He will continue to lose work do Green, but he can be a bye week filler.

Pat Fitzmaurice
The Football Girl
Getting harder to maintain optimism; his suckage might be permanent.
Perhaps two TEs can post good stats in SD offense, but his time is running out.

Trent Richardson was as disappointing as any fantasy player in the NFL in 2013, but he is in a great offense and with Donald Brown in San Diego, Richardson will have every chance to rebound in 2014.
The days of Gates being a monster tight end in fantasy appear to be over. He is a Hall of Fame player, but he is past his prime and I think this is the year that Ladarius Green emerges as the top tight end in San Diego. Over the last eight games of last season (including playoffs), Gates managed a meager 3 receptions for 27.8 yards per game with only one touchdown.

Now that Vic Ballard is lost for the season to a torn ACL, T-Rich has one less back to worry about during camp. His main competition is veteran Ahmad Bradshaw who, if healthy, is a talented capable runner.
The old man still produces by getting 872 yards and four scores a year ago. There is always questions regarding his ability to stay healthy and now there is a breakout star in the making in Ladarius Green behind him on the depth chart. His numbers should diminish a bit, but he is still worthy of a roster spot.
