He is a top target for Peyton and his ability to find the end-zone help him to be elite.

Gronk was the 15th ranked tight end last year, despite playing in only seven games. In those seven games, he posted 39 receptions for 592 yards and four touchdowns. The concern with him at this point is his ability to stay healthy for a full season. The news is good surrounding his recovery, so he is a top tier tight end at this point.
Thomas had a breakout season with 65 receptions for 788 yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. As long as QB Peyton Manning is playing strong, Thomas should be an elite fantasy tight end.

Tom Schriner
FFLockerRoom
When healthy, Gronk is in the top two. But, I'm really starting to wonder whether he can make it through 16 games without getting hurt and this lands him this low in the rankings. He is a beast, a major matchup issue for opposing defenses. He will rack up yards and is Tom Brady's prime red zone target for touchdowns. Gronkowski just started to participate in full-team drills since undergoing surgery on his torn right ACL and it took Brady one play to find Gronkowski.
Thomas was the breakout fantasy player in the 2013 season with 788 yards and 12 scores while not playing in all 16 regular season contests. This offseason he spent time working with Tony Gonzalez. He caught three passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' second preseason game against the 49ers. He will get better and Manning will continue to use him as a major red zone threat, especially with the loss of Eric Decker.

Brandon Funston
Yahoo! Sports
Seems to have no shortage of folks who believe he'll be ready to rock-n-roll in '14 after ACL surgery - have seen him go top 2 rounds of drafts often
He owns W1 - 5 TDs, 214 yards in past two openers. Looking like a Round 3 draft-day steal.

Sablich Brothers
The New York Times
Avoids the PUP and should be ready to go for week one.
A surefire 3rd round pick that can build on last year's TD totals (12) with Decker out.

Tozzi Brothers
Legion Report
Gronk recently told reporters that he will not change his playing style based on past injuries. He has had eight known surgeries in his career and missed 14 regular season games over the last two seasons. His upside is daunting, but proceed with caution as the injury bug will more than likely hit him once again. Gronk has gone for double digit TDs in each NFL season but one (2010 – 10 TDs, 2011 – 18 TDs, 2012 – 11 TDs, 2013 – 5 TDs). If you make this pick, hedge your bets and roster an additional solid TE to protect yourself.
Orange Julius has certainly not rested on his laurels as he consistently worked this off-season with future Hall of Fame TE – Tony Gonzalez. Thomas ended 2013 with 788 Receiving Yards and 12 TDs and is expecting to be used much more creatively in his Sophomore Season . Thomas said, ”I think there are a lot of things that our offense wanted to do with me, but you can only learn so much in one year.” If you miss on Jimmy Graham, Thomas is the obvious replacement and should be snatched up relatively early before the cliff of a tier rapidly approaches. In our opinion, Thomas is the final “lock it up” option at the TE position.

Jeff Boggis
Fantasy Football Empire

In 2013, 12 TDs and 2 games with over 100+ receiving yards. Eric Decker is gone and look for Thomas to replace Decker's 2013 stats of 87 receptions, 1,288 receiving yards, and 11 TDs. If you miss out on Jimmy Graham and still want an elite TE, then target Thomas in rounds 3 or 4 this season.

Smitty
Fantasy Football Starters
Huge risk if you take him anywhere near your 2nd or 3rd drafted player -- But, he always has 10TD appeal.
10TD capable without a doubt!

Chet Gresham
The Fake Football
Like Graham, Gronk makes for a big gap at the TE position and other teams in your league. The only reason he's not the #1 TE is his injury history. He is 50-50 to play Week 1, but I'll take him for 14/15 weeks at his production level.
I almost put JT in the tier before this because I think he takes a step forward this year. He was hurt early in his career and was already a raw player, so last season was a revelation as Peyton and company helped take his physical talents and turn them into great production. With a full season, off-season and healthy training camp under his belt I only see more to come.

Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
Rob Gronkowski whom while he is now considered an injury risk seems to be the only tight end who is a consistent and credible threat to finish as fantasy football’s number one tight end over Jimmy Graham.
Julius Thomas is an elite tight end option you should draft early but is not as elite as the top two and should not be a consideration in the first round. Julius should have another fantastic season and is perfectly capable of a top two finish.

Pat Fitzmaurice
The Football Girl
He's a TD machine, but his body has been through a sausage grinder.
Not nearly as talented as Graham and Gronk, but, oh, that Denver offense.

Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
When healthy he's probably better than Graham but the "when" hasn't been happening a lot lately.
Killed it in just 14 games despite sharing the rock a ton. No Decker could mean an even bigger 2014 season.
