Matt Harvey will be a favorite pick tonight in a lackluster slate of SPs

Matt Harvey will be a favorite pick tonight in a lackluster slate of SPs

It’s Thursday, which means there is a limited number of games to choose from tonight, seven, but there are still players available to put a winning lineup together.

Pitcher

Of all the top starting pitchers on the mound Thursday night, Harvey has the most upside. Harvey is winless in his last five starts, but that is largely due to a lack of run support. He is a capable of going deep into games and piling up a high strikeout total. He is the biggest favorite on the night, according to Vegas.

Other Notables

Catcher

Chirinos sat out yesterday’s game because of a sore right hand, but he should be in the lineup on Thursday. He has a favorable righty/lefty matchup tonight and is batting .303 against LHP vs. just .162 against RHP.

Other Notables

First Base

Votto is batting .347 on the road this year, compared to .230 at home. He has eight HR and 19 RBI against RHP compared to just two HR and nine RBI against LHP. He has a favorable matchup on the road against RHP Aaron Harang tonight. Over his last seven games, Votto is batting .333/.438/.778 with thee HR and seven RBI.

Other Notables

Second Base

Utley got off to a slow start this season but has finally gotten his AVG up over .200. He batted .256 in the month of May and is 3-for-7 (.429) in two games in June. With his price tag being what it is, Utley presents good value tonight.

Other Notables

Third Base

Longoria is batting .318 against LHP this season and presents good value at that price tag. He is a solid veteran hitter who can always come through with a big hit on any given night.

Other Notables

Shortstop

I typically don’t like to spend big money on middle infield position players, and Escobar presents good value at SS tonight. Escobar went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored yesterday against Cleveland.

Outfield

Moss is currently on a four-game hitting streak and is batting .379/.400/.690 with two HR and three RBI in his last seven games. He is averaging 4.68 FDP over his last four contests.

Bruce had three walks last night against the Phillies and was 2-for-3 in the first game of the series. He has seven HR on the season and is always capable of making it eight.

Butler is currently on a five-game hitting streak, including three multi-hit games. Over his last seven games, Butler is hitting .345/.345/.621 with two HR and four RBI. He is a .349 hitter on the road and a .333 hitter against LHP.
