DraftKings NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (2/25)

40 years ago today the iconic hockey movie Slap Shot was released and as a lifelong fan of the movie and the sport, I was wondering how DFS hockey would relate to some of the players from the Charleston Chiefs and some of the other characters from the game.

Reggie Dunlop (CHC): The player-coach for the Chiefs is all grit, but at the backend of his career. If fantasy points were awarded for leadership and smarts, he would be a great selection.

Ned Braden (CHC): The Chiefs leading scorer and top play on any given night should be in all your lineups and will see lots of playing time with every other Chief likely in the penalty box.

Tim “Doctor Hook” McCracken (SYR): The leader of the Syracuse Bulldogs is a safe play because he will be the only player left from the team after lining his team full of ringers in anticipation of a revenge showdown versus the Chiefs.

Denis Lemieux (CHC): Selecting goalies for fantasy lineups was not difficult back in the 1970s due to the fact that the backups rarely played. Look for Lemieux to see plenty of rubber once again between the pipes for the Chiefs.

Jack Hanson, Jeff Hanson and Steve Hanson (CHC): Don’t let the glasses fool you, these brothers can play and are foiled up and ready to go tonight in a big game. The only risk is that they get ejected for fighting during warmups and you might get three zeros. They make for a better GPP or tournament play than for cash lineups.

The NHL seven-game slate begins at 5:00 pm (EST) so make sure you get your lineups in earlier than normal.

Here are tonight’s likely goalies with high win probabilities in order of Vegas line favorite:

Sergei Bobrovsky (CLS): $8,200 vs. NYI -150 Favorite
Matt Murray (PIT): $8,200 vs. PHI -206 Favorite
Martin Jones (SJ): $7,900 @ VAN -168 Favorite

Here are some of the teams that should put up some goals tonight when selecting skaters for your lineups:

Pittsburgh Penguins
Columbus Blue Jackets
Washington Capitals
Toronto Maple Leafs

My cash game lineup for tonight:

Center

Sidney Crosby (PIT): $8,400 vs. PHI
The Penguins will be hosting Philadelphia tonight in the Stadium Series outdoor game at Heinz Field tonight is the kind of spotlight game Crosby thrives in. He also happens to have three goals in his last four games and should be the centerpiece of any fantasy lineup tonight.

Alexander Wennberg (CLS): $5,500 vs. NYI
He doesn’t shoot the puck very much but centers both the top line and power-play units for the Blue Jackets in a good matchup tonight between playoff contenders. Wennberg has four assists in his last three games.

Wing

Oliver Bjorkstrand (CLS): $3,600 vs. NYI
Bjorkstrand is my value play of the night. He will be on the top line with Wennberg and has performed well in just eight NHL games. He has two goals in his last three games with 11 shots in that span and has played over 16 minutes a game the last two games. Right now he is a steal at $3,600.

Chris Kunitz (PIT): $4,800 vs. PHI
With Crosby in my lineup, Kunitz is a good value play to pair with him in my cash lineup tonight. He will likely be on the top unit with Crosby and see power-play time as well. He is not spectacular by any means but has averaged over 16 minutes per game in his last ten games with three goals and two assists in that span.

Leo Komarov (TOR): $3,700 vs. MON
Komarov skates on the top line for Toronto and plays over 18 minutes a night. He has two goals and five assists in his last six games and yet somehow he is only $3,700. Komarov should see plenty of ice time tonight in a rivalry game against Montreal.

Defense

Jake Gardiner (TOR): $4,400 vs. MON
He has had a very nice ten game stretch with three goals, five assists with 19 shots on goal in that span for an average of 3.5 fantasy points per game. He has been on fire his last three games with two goals and four assists for a total of 19.5 fantasy points.

Zach Werenski (CLS): $5,300 vs. NYI
The rookie has broke out of a six-game pointless streak and now has a goal and four assists in his last three games for a total of 18.5 fantasy points. He should see plenty of ice time tonight at home against the Islanders.

Goalie

Matt Murray (PIT): $8,200 vs. PHI
At the time of this writing, Murray was not officially announced as the starter for the Stadium Series game tonight against Philadelphia. Murray is 2-1-1 in his last four games and the Penguins seem to raise their game in spotlight situations like this. I like Murray’s chances for a win tonight which is what we are looking for in cash lineups. Should Marc-Andre Fleury be announced the starter go ahead and swap them.

Utility

Evgeny Kuznetsov (WAS): $6,000 @ NSH
I wanted some exposure to this game tonight and with the available money I have, Kuznetsov fits nicely in my cash lineup. In road games, I like to start second-line players especially with Washington’s top line featuring Alex Ovechkin drawing most of the defensive attention from the home team’s ability to change lines last. Kuznetsov has been very steady posting 28 points in his last 24 games.
