FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (11/14)

Tonight we have an eight-game slate with a lot of great value plays. This is a night where the “stars and scrubs” strategy is certainly viable. Let’s take a look at some “scrubs” in great spots.

Center

Bryan Little (WPG): $4,500 vs. ARI
The Arizona Coyotes are a great team to pick on when looking for offense. Allowing the most goals against per game in the NHL, the desert dogs are off to a very disappointing start to the season. The Jets are a big home favorite in this game and shouldn’t have any issues finding the back of the net tonight.

These two teams played each other just three nights ago where the Jets scored four goals on route to an easy victory. All Winnipeg forwards are in play and Little fits the bill for salary relief.

As the second line center, Little plays alongside the red-hot Patrik Laine and also centers the second power-play unit. Although the box score doesn’t look great for Little, the matchup and price is too good to pass up.

Wing

Kyle Connor (WPG): $4,300 vs. ARI
The first line left winger for the Jets is a great value play to pair with Bryan Little in tonight’s slate as part of a full team stack. Although Connor doesn’t play with Little, it is a great way to get exposure to two lines on a team projected to score multiple goals for a very low price.

Connor scored a goal and added four shots last game against the Coyotes and is off to a great start in his rookie season. Skating alongside Scheifele and Wheeler on both the first line and first power-play unit, expect Kyle Connor to produce points all season long.

Jesse Puljujarvi (EDM): $3,300 vs. VGK
The Edmonton Oilers are struggling to find offense this season and are hoping the young Finnish prospect, Jesse Puljujarvi, will add fire to a cold start. After being called up two games ago in light of the Anton Slepyshev injury, Puljujarvi has already scored and recorded six shots. Slotted on the second line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Milan Lucic, the youngster has great skill around him which will put him in a great opportunity to succeed.

Puljujarvi is expected to play on the second power-play unit which only adds to his potential. There is a lot of raw talent with this player so we have to expect a lot of peaks and valleys, but at nearly minimum price, he is a great value option.

Defense

Marco Scandella (BUF): $3,600 @ PIT
Marco Scandella sat last practice due to an illness but should be in line to start tonight against the Penguins. With Rasmus Ristolainen out on the injury reserve, Scandella has been logging the most minutes of any other Sabres’ defensemen. He will see power play time against a team who ranks second in penalty minutes per game and is a lock to play over 20 minutes.

The Penguins have struggled at keeping the puck out of the net this year allowing 3.53 goals against per game. Although Pittsburgh is a heavy favorite and will likely win this game, Buffalo should put up a few points, and Scandella is a great bet to contribute at a low cost.

Goalie

Roberto Luongo (FLA): $7,800 vs. DAL
Tonight is a better slate to pay up for goaltending and find value at other positions. However, if you need to save, there are a couple of options in net. It is always terrifying to select a goalie going up against the Dallas Stars, but Luongo has been pretty good since coming back from injury.

The Panthers have a potent offense and should score goals in this game to put Luongo in line for the win. Although the win is crucial, Florida is giving up shots at an alarming rate which is great for fantasy points.

This will provide a high floor for a risky, low owned play. The Stars are the only team playing their second game on a back-to-back which could leave them sluggish and slow.
