FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (1/13)

We have 14 games to work with in the late slate tonight. At first glance, I like Boston, Vegas, and San Jose to serve up a few tasty options due to their matchups, while Winnipeg and Dallas have some big dogs always ready to run. Vegas and Boston are on fire right now as the hottest teams in the league, followed closely by Winnipeg and Colorado (yes, Colorado).

Center

Nathan MacKinnon (COL): $8,000 vs. DAL
Speaking of hot, how about starting a guy that has three goals and nine assists in his last five games? It is great to see a young star find his way in this league, and MacKinnon is quietly exploding onto the scene this year as he is currently tied for second place in the scoring race. Dallas is decent defensively, but MacKinnon has been unstoppable this year and should justify his price tonight.

William Karlsson (VGK): $6,400 vs. EDM
In a Freaky Friday matchup, we have the first-place expansion team hosting an Edmonton squad that had very high hopes coming into the season. The Oilers are 27th in goals against this year and are limping into town with a 3-6-1 record in their last 10 games. The house usually wins in Vegas, and the Golden Knights have an incredible 18-2-1 record at home. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games and this very well could be a blowout. Karlsson has an impressive 22 goals already and leads Vegas forwards in ice time.

Wing

Kyle Connor (WPG): $4,500 vs. MIN
Conner feels like a bargain at this price as he has continued to prove he belongs, not only in the NHL but in a top-six role on one of the best offensive teams. He has seven points in his last six games (including four goals) and is currently playing with the Jet’s two best forwards, Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine. His second goal against the Sabres recently displayed the confidence and skill of a young sniper.

Ryan Spooner (BOS): $4,500 vs. MON
I like a few Bruins tonight, but Spooner’s price was too tempting. With four points in his last four games, he is heating up and also finds himself on Boston’s underrated second line with David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk. I like the matchup as well (Montreal is 21st in goals against). As bargains go, this feels like some good ROI.

David Perron (VGK): $5,800 vs. EDM
I was tempted to start three or four skaters from Vegas tonight, but Perron is my choice. With seven points in his last eight games, Perron is continuing to produce at an impressive clip this year. He now has 34 points in 35 games this year, so it’s not a stretch to expect some more against the Oilers at home.

Taylor Hall (NJ): $7,500 vs. PHI
Here’s the heavyweight among my choices at wing. With 10 points in his last seven games, he is showing no signs of slowing down during an excellent campaign (42 points in 39 games). He plays on the top line and easily leads their forwards in ice time and power play time.

Defense

John Klingberg (DAL): $5,700 vs. COL
This feels like stealing, but I won’t tell if you don’t. Klingberg is leading all defensemen in points with 39 in 43 games. With an average of 23:23 minutes of ice time (3:12 on the power play), he has plenty of time to produce points and is not just a power-play quarterback as his 53 blocked shots will attest. Regardless of salary, he would be my top choice.

Erik Johnson (COL): $4,600 vs. DAL
Johnson’s game has come on during Colorado’s recent surge in the standings (7-2-1 in their last 10 games), and many would say he is one of the reasons for the turnaround. He’s had to fill a larger offensive role with Tyson Barrie out of the lineup and has responded well. He is definitely a value play but with three points in his last five games and an impressive 84 blocked shots to date, I feel he’ll be solid-to-good.

Goalie

Martin Jones (SJ): $8,000 vs. ARI
San Jose has been solid this year on the road and quite good at home (12-6-2), and they rarely lose there to teams they are supposed to beat. They are supposed to beat the Coyotes, as Arizona is 5-14-4 on the road and has scored the fewest goals in the league. Martin Jones (currently projected to start) has also been solid this year and that should get the job done against the Coyotes. As always, make sure your goalie is a confirmed starter before entering your lineup.
