We are now into our third positional rankings for the series which means that today I’ll be covering second basemen. I’ve got my top 60 fantasy second basemen ranked for you with notes on the 40 who are fantasy relevant for standard 12 team leagues. Before we jump into the rankings, I’ll tell you about the second basemen that I’ve been targeting and will continue to target in all of my leagues.
Most years, I jump out of the seat of my pants to get a top-tier second basemen before the talent level drops off the cliff. In 2018, that cliff oddly doesn’t come until around the 15th round. At that point, you can grab some of my favorite sleepers like Jason Kipnis, who has already knocked six homers this year in Spring Training, or Jonathan Villar, who is just one year removed from being a top 10 fantasy player. In virtually every deeper league, Jedd Gyorko ends up being my middle infielder because the Cardinals ended up not replacing him in the starting lineup thanks to the 50 homers he has hit in his last 800 at-bats. More likely, however, I’ll pull the trigger on either Rougned Odor or Whit Merrifield around pick 85. Odor has legitimate top 20 potential and even at his floor was a top 100 player last season. Whit is a virtual lock for 25+ stolen bases and a strong batting average which is a rare combination to come by, especially up the middle. Now, let’s move on over and look at all of the rankings and notes for the position.
