Dynasty Waiver Wire: Week 11 (Fantasy Football)

I got a bit of a head start on decorating for Christmas this year. My normal routine is to get all the boxes off the shelves and dust off the decorations right after Thanksgiving, but this year my wife and I decided that we mine as well start early. So… I am going to attribute my boneheaded/rookie mistake that I made while setting everything up (which I will explain here shortly) to the change in my normal routine of decorations and lights. Let me explain.

Everyman knows to pull the outdoor lights out of the box and test each strand individually because we as a nation can create self-driving cars or commercial space travel, yet have been unable to master the outdoor Christmas lights that work two years in a row. Here’s where my rookie mistake comes in… I just started putting up the lights before checking. I plugged them in after they were all up on the house during the daylight and didn’t notice that they were not working until later that night when half of the strands were broken.

So why am I telling you about my Christmas decorating problems? Because maybe you can relate to me about Christmas decorating, or maybe your fantasy football team is like my strand of lights… they look alright from a distance, but once you get up close and personal, you see a lot of flaws. The best part about your fantasy team unlike my lights, is that your team can be fixed (maybe, kinda).

Week 11 is another important week for teams that are trying to make that playoff push, or trying to snag a valuable player to help your fantasy team build for next year. There will be another six teams on bye this week, so snagging a player off of the waiver wire this week may prove to be even more important than in weeks past. So keep your chin up and keep on fighting… until you are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Some of the names that I will be listing below and in future articles will already be owned in your league. If you are in a 10-team league, many of these players may be available, but if you are in a 12 or 14 team league, fewer may be available. For the most part, I will be listing players that are owned in less than 40% of 12 team leagues. Here we go!

Jacquizz Rodgers (RB – TB)
I’m not sure if the Buccaneers actually knew that Rodgers was still on their team or not, but he has looked like their best back as of late (I’m not sure what that says about their backfield). Rodgers is still yet to see a decent workload, but he turned in a very efficient game, catching eight passes for 102 yards. The Bucs may give him a larger workload moving forward and if you are hurting for a RB to start in week 11, Rodgers may not be a bad play.

Josh Adams (RB – PHI)
If you listened to me a couple of weeks ago, then Adams may be sitting on your bench. But if he is still on your waiver wire, pick em’ up (As Lloyd Christmas would say)! Adams should and most likely will start getting more and more carries as the season moves on. He only had seven carries for 47 yards on Sunday, but he is averaging an impressive 5.7 yards per clip on the season so far. Adams is the best healthy RB on the roster right now.

Maurice Harris (WR – WAS)
If you were watching any Washington Redskins pre-season games, you may have wondered who the tall guy with dreads, making all the tough catches was. Well, his name is Maurice Harris, and he is starting to become the best WR in Washington. Jamison Crowder has been out, Paul Richardson is done for the year, Chris Thompson keeps missing time, and Josh Doctson‘s catch rate is abysmal. Harris had a quiet game, catching 5 passes for 52 yards, but he still has an impressive 18 targets over the last two weeks. If Thompson or Crowder keep missing time, Harris becomes a more and more valuable piece in the Redskins offense.

Zay Jones (WR – BUF)
Jones is a guy that I liked a lot coming out of college… then he got drafted by the Bills. The Bills continued the streak of starting a player that essentially jumped off the couch, or got yanked off the golf course to come start as their quarterback. Matt Barkley turned in a decent performance, completing 15 passes for 232 yards, and Jones was the main recipient of those yards. Zay caught eight balls for 93 yards and a touchdown on what was one of his best career games. Unfortunately he is on bye this week, but still worthy of a roster spot.

Josh Reynolds (WR – LAR)
This add is mainly due to a devastating injury to Cooper Kupp and the Rams offense. Kupp is one of my favorite players and it was too bad for him and the Rams with the type of season they were both having. I mentioned Reynolds a couple of weeks ago as a potential add due to an injury to Kupp, Woods, or Cooks, and now the time has come. While I wouldn’t be thrilled to have to start Reynolds because his stats have not been great thus far in the season, he is worth an add as a deep stash in leagues.

Nick Vannett (TE – SEA)
Vannett was the guy that many of us thought would be the main beneficiary from the departure of Jimmy Graham. Then a rookie named Will Dissly came out of nowhere and stole the spotlight, and then unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury. It was then Vannett’s time again, but he disappeared to the background and was very quiet. Ed Dickson then came back off of IR and posted a good game, but now it seems again that it is Vannett’s time to shine. Vannett has caught a touchdown in back-to-back games and while his targets are not going to be high, he is worth an add for a possible streaming option.

Jaylen Samuels (RB/TE – PIT)
Samuels is one of the most intriguing players in fantasy simply due to the double tag of RB and TE. He is a utility player, and now that we can assume Bell is not coming back, Samuels may have a bit of value as a handcuff to Conner. He saw five carries and four targets in the last game and can be deployed at either position. I would only add Samuels if I was the Conner owner, or in a 14+ team league. Nevertheless, though, he is an intriguing player on an intriguing team.

Other players to watch out for

Jonnu Smith (TE – TEN)
Rex Burkhead (RB – NE)
Spencer Ware (RB – KC)
Theo Riddick (RB – DET)
Gerald Everett (TE – LAR)
Tyler Higbee (TE – LAR)
