Catcher is a barren wasteland. If you’ve completed a draft by now, you likely figured that out pretty quickly. Hopefully it wasn’t learned the hard way! There are seven quality fantasy catchers then after that, we’ve got players who would go undrafted in 24 team leagues if they were outfielders or even second basemen. My advice is to grab your guy early even if it doesn’t seem like a great value. Believe me, it will pay off. I’ll get to my rankings in a moment, but first, let me tell you about my two favorite catching targets this year.

J.T. Realmuto (MIA): 5th Round Target
I would understand why you may prefer to grab a great #2 pitcher for your rotation in the 5th or a potential five-tool dynamo in the outfield, but Realmuto is so much better than replacement, that I frankly would take him in the early 3rd round if his ADP required it. Not only is he far above replacement at the position in all five categories, but he did it in the worst park for hitters and now moves to one of the best.
Wilson Ramos (NYM): 12th Round Target
When I haven’t been able to land Ramos at a reasonable price, Ramos has ended up on 100% of my rosters. The 12th round is a little early to target him, but after Gary Sanchez and Willson Contreras, the pickings get slip really quick. Ramos is a sure bet to help in four categories which is near impossible value to find at any position, let alone the most frustrating position, late into drafts.
