Bobby Sylvester’s 2019 Week 1 Rankings (Start or Sit Answers)

Happy fantasy football opening day, friends. If you’ve got start/sit questions for Week 1, I’m here to answer them all with my rankings. I’ll post this article every Thursday afternoon to help you make your most challenging decisions each week. If you aren’t reading it until Saturday or Sunday, don’t worry, I’ll continue to update it every few hours for you all. As always, if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out on Twitter @bobbyfantasypro. Before we dive into the rankings, let me tell you about four start/sit options that I am especially opinionated about this week.

Matthew Stafford (QB – DET) — QB #12 vs ECR #22 @ ARI
Stafford wasn’t great last year, with a fractured back, mind you, but prior to that, he was a top 10 fantasy QB in three consecutive seasons. The Lions ran a slower pace last year under Matt Patricia, but even if they do Sunday, Arizona will be playing a fast enough tempo that Detroit will be forced into 65+ offensive plays. If Stafford gets that versus this horrid defense, that just so happens to be missing two cornerbacks, he should finish as a QB1.

Latavius Murray (RB – NO) — RB #23 vs ECR #32 vs HOU
If you drafted Murray and aren’t playing him this week in a week-high 53.5 point over/under as part of a home team 7-point favorite then you might as well drop him because there is no scenario you’d ever play him. Murray may not be as talented in the receiving game as Mark Ingram, but he should make up for that difference on the goal-line where he has been the single most efficient back in the NFL over the past three seasons.

Robby Anderson (WR – NYJ) — WR #43 vs ECR #36 vs BUF
This has little to do with Anderson’s talent and everything to do with the fact that wide receivers are much more matchup dependent than running back. Buffalo was 32nd in fantasy points allowed to opposing passing games last season and not only that, but Anderson has by far the toughest matchup of the group. Tre’Davious White is as good of a shadow corner as you’ll find in the NFL and he’ll be locked in on Anderson all afternoon.

Will Dissly (TE – SEA) — TE #10 vs ECR #28 vs CIN
Here is where we get crazy, and I can assure you I am not doing it for hyperbole. I would and am truly using Dissly in several leagues where I need a streamer. David Moore is dealing with a significant shoulder injury, D.K. Metcalf is three weeks removed from knee surgery and Tyler Lockett only once had 7+ targets last season. That leaves some volume for Dissly who is going up against the 2nd easiest opponent for fantasy tight ends.
