DraftKings NHL DFS Strategy Advice: Tuesday (3/16)

DraftKings NHL DFS Strategy Advice: Tuesday (3/16)

Week 10 picks up on Tuesday with a seven-game slate, including a couple of major matchups in the East Division. The New York Islanders are winners of nine straight but will be presented with a difficult matchup against Nicklas Backstrom and the Washington Capitals, who are riding a five-game win streak of their own. Meanwhile, the Boston Bruins travel west to try ending their two-game losing streak against a Pittsburgh Penguins team that are winners of six in a row. Several lopsided matchups are also set to occur, allowing fantasy managers to find deeper value amongst second and third-line skaters. Let’s check out a few players to target when constructing your Tuesday lineups.

Center

Brock Nelson (NYI): $5,300 @ WAS
Brock Nelson has scored three goals across his last four games played as the second-line C for the Islanders, seeing an uptick in average time on ice (19:08) during this same span. The 29-year old also centers the second power-play unit, affording him additional opportunities to get the puck on the net. Totaling six shots on goal against the Devils in their previous win on Sunday, Nelson has only gone without a point in one of his last seven games and should have numerous opportunities to chip in on an assist or find the back of the net against Capitals G Ilya Samsonov, who is averaging 3.50 GAA with a mediocre .892 save percentage across his last two starts. The Islanders will look to make it 10 straight wins in a pivotal matchup against the Capitals on Tuesday, with Washington only two points behind them to reign supreme atop the East Division. Nelson is a great value play at under $5,500 on DraftKings and should be plugged into fantasy lineups before the 7 pm puck drop in D.C. on Tuesday night.

Wing

Anthony Cirelli (TB): $6,000 @ DAL
After racking up a point in back-to-back games, Tampa Bay Lightning RW Anthony Cirelli failed to generate anything against Nashville on Monday in a shocking 4-1 loss. Cirelli managed just one shot on goal with a -2 rating. Still, he earns plenty of opportunities on a nightly basis by skating on the first line alongside C Brayden Point and LW Ondrej Palat and being featured on the second power-play unit. With just one goal over his last five games, the 23-year old RW is due to cash in on Tuesday against projected Dallas Stars G Anton Khudobin, who allows a 3.00 GAA with a woeful .833 save percentage across his last two games played. Expect Tampa to come out skating fast and aggressively seeking an early lead, which is a recipe for success from Cirelli and the rest of the first-line skaters.

Defense

Jonas Brodin (MIN): $5,700 vs. ARI
Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin has scored two goals and an assist across his last four games played. This follows a seven-game goal drought that reduced the second-line defender’s salary on DraftKings, creating solid value to add into your lineups ahead of Tuesday’s third-consecutive matchup against the Arizona Coyotes. Although skating on the second-line, the 27-year old Swede gets additional opportunities to get the puck on the net while skating with the team’s second power-play unit. Brodin is averaging 22:54 of time on ice this season and will take advantage of the Coyotes reserve G Antti Raanta who replaced the injured starter Darcy Kuemper (lower body) against the Colorado Avalanche last week. Brodin is a great value play and should help the Wild continue their recent dominance within the West Division.

Goalie

Semyon Varlamov (NYI): $7,400 @ WAS
Arguably one of the hottest netminders in the league ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Washington Capitals, New York Islanders G Semyon Varlamov will look to continue his impressive four-game winning streak. Varlamov has allowed two goals or less in all four wins during this stretch, averaging a ridiculous 1.44 GAA with a .951 save percentage across the last week to help propel the Islanders atop the East Division. Based on his spectacular play within the pipes, Varlamov demands a high salary even for goalies, who are typically one of the more expensive pieces to add into lineups. He can take your lineup to the next level with his low GAA and the bonus points rewarded to a winning goaltender in DFS. Ensure roster Varlamov early before setting the rest of your lineup to allow for more tinkering amongst cheaper value skaters available during Tuesday’s slate.
