Now, let’s get into some players whose stocks I’m buying on Sunday, January 1, Week 17.

Dak Prescott ($5.84 Projected finish: 29)

Dallas’ offense is running hot. This season, they’re averaging 69 plays per game (second-most). Over their last three games, they’re averaging nearly 74 plays per game, the most in the league. Dallas’ weapons are all healthy as of Saturday, and Arizona is pretty banged up on defense. In a game with a 51-point projected total, I’m taking Dallas’ quarterback to be involved in a good amount of that scoring.

Jalen Hurts ($4.50 Projected finish: 38)

Hurts has looked solid since returning from an ankle injury two weeks ago. In two games, he’s completed 37 of 55 passes for 495 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He’s also tacked on two rushing touchdowns. His matchup Sunday against the Washington Football Team is fantastic. WFT has allowed the third-most passing yards, most passing touchdowns, third-most rushing yards, and most rushing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season. Miles Sanders is out, so the Eagles will likely rely on Hurts’ arm and legs Sunday.

Dalvin Cook ($3.90 Projected finish: 43)

Cook is returning from the COVID-19 list, and there’s no evidence to imply this will increase or decrease his value on the field. Nick Chubb had a great game in his return from COVID, so who knows. We know that the Green Bay Packers defense has been dreadful against the run this season. They’re allowing opposing running backs to run for 4.8 yards per carry, tied for the most in the NFL. The Packers have let running backs run for 6.7 yards per carry in their last three games. The opportunity is there for Cook in a surely hard-fought, bitter division rivalry game.

Mike Evans ($3.40 Projected finish: 48)

Freshly activated from the COVID-19 reserve list, signs point to Evans playing Sunday. This would be fantastic timing for anyone with Evans on their fantasy team or Jock Market lineup. The Bucs get the Jets, who flash 6’1 young cornerback Bryce Hall (again, the cornerback, not the Tik Toker). Evans will likely see a ton of Hall Sunday, which should be a very good thing for Evans. Hall has surrendered the fifth-most receptions of all cornerbacks when targeted, as well as six touchdowns and a 113.7 passer rating. Assuming Evans plays, Tom Brady will have fun with this matchup.

John Bates ($1.72 Projected finish: 69)

How about this for a deep pull? My budget buy of the week is Washington Football Team’s newest solution to their starting tight end problem in the absence of Logan Thomas. The Ricky Seals-Jones experiment didn’t last long. Bates has out-snapped RSJ in each of the last seven games. Last weekend, Bates logged 75% of the offensive snaps compared to Seals-Jones’ 42%. I’m not just taking Bates because he’s bogarting some snaps, though. I’m taking Bates because the Eagles have allowed opposing tight ends to produce all season. They’ve surrendered 98 receptions to tight ends, tied for the league lead. They’ve also allowed 12 touchdowns, again tied for the league lead. Lastly, Philadelphia’s defense has surrendered the eighth-most completions this year, which should enable the 6’5 rookie to see some volume.
