Fantasy Football Burning Questions Week 9: Jahmyr Gibbs, Davante Adams, Derrick Henry, Najee Harris

We saw a significant injury last week that could have an impact on some of your players and we cover some of the hottest and coldest players in the league. Doesn’t matter about a player’s temperature because we’re always burning.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Burning Questions

Do you fear the Jahmyr Gibbs ride will stop when David Montgomery returns?

Absolutely, because it will probably happen. Monty in the backfield looked great, and Gibbs in the backfield looks great, that’s because this is one of the best offensive lines in the league.

Look at most of the carries for each of these backs, and you’ll see running lanes as wide as four-lane highways. This team will be in the playoffs, and if they want to win their first postseason game in 30 years, they’ll want two fresh running backs.

With Kirk Cousins done for the season, how should we feel about the receiver core?

Last week, I said to keep Jordan Addison even when Justin Jefferson returns because both will be fantasy-relevant. It’s time to reevaluate that answer.

Jaren Hall is the starter, and he’s hard to gauge because the Vikings were up two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The biggest thing we saw was they ran the ball more, despite the fact coming into this game, they were the heaviest passing team in the league.

A full week of practice with the first unit will help, but they will likely start running the ball more, splitting carries between Alexander Mattison and Cam Akers. T.J. Hockenson, Addison, and if he returns, Justin Jefferson will likely see a hit to their targets. Joshua Dobbs may eventually become the starter, but he’ll have a condensed version of the playbook, and I don’t believe anyone will have the same production as before.

Can we confidently start anyone from the Raiders?

At the beginning of the year, I said to avoid Davante Adams and the Raiders receiving corps, but I didn’t think Josh Jacobs would take a hit in production.

Las Vegas is terrible at controlling the ball; they’re -8 turnover margin is the worst in the league, and Jimmy Garoppolo has the most interceptions with nine despite missing two games.

Here’s the thing: Vegas’ remaining strength of schedule is favorable, but the turnover issue takes away possessions, which means it takes away opportunities for fantasy points.

Let’s see if it changes with Josh McDaniels out of the picture.

With Derrick Henry still in Tennessee, is there any chance for Tyjae Spears to be fantasy-relevant?

Everyone has been waiting for the Tyjae Spears breakout like the next Dr. Dre album, and we probably won’t get either this year. King Henry is fifth in carries, fourth in rushing yards, and still productive with the third-most yards after contact and fifth-most broken tackles.

I’m holding onto Spears in dynasty leagues, but unless Henry is injured, it’s not happening this season.

Are we getting another Najee Harris second-half surge?

Last season, from Week 1-8, Harris was the RB23, following his bye from Week 10-18, he was the RB7.

Currently, he’s the RB32, but he’s scored over ten fantasy points in three of four. In one of those games, he had a big catch, and another was helped by his first touchdown of the season. The production has regressed, and he’s rushed for under four yards per carry in each of the last three games.

Another concern is how much Jaylen Warren is getting involved. Last year, Harris took more than 60% of the snaps in 13 games, this year, he has yet to reach that mark.

The Steelers have the 11th-easiest strength of schedule for running backs for the remainder of the year, but Harris isn’t going to get the volume to be a confident start each week.
