NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Saturday (11/11)

We have a massive sports day on the horizon, including ranked matchups in college football, a stacked UFC 295 card, a full European soccer slate, and of course, games in the NBA and NHL. For me, I’m focusing on the DFS aspect on the ice today. Below I’ve listed the roster that I’m playing in tonight’s classic $50,000 salary format over at DraftKings. This contest features players from the final 10 games of the night (starting at 7:00 p.m. ET), and I’ve also included the prices at FanDuel. Let’s dive into who I believe will have a big night on the ice!

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis

Lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Elias Pettersson ($7,900 DK, $9,900 FD)

The oddsmakers are expecting a ton of goals in tonight’s matchup between the Canucks and Maple Leafs, setting the total at 6.5, with juice to over. And, you can’t blame them considering these two high-octane offenses.

I’ll use Elias Pettersson as my anchor tonight. The centerman is putting together a dominant season through the first few weeks, leading the whole league in scoring (7G, 17A). Toronto’s defense is still somewhat in shambles considering they’re 28th in goals against per game (3.43). They’re also on the heels of a back-to-back after winning 5-4 in a shootout vs. Calgary last night. Look for this quick Canucks offense to find success tonight.

C2: Pavel Zacha ($5,000 DK, $5,600 FD)

The Bruins have an easy road matchup tonight where they’re a -218 moneyline favorite vs. the Canadiens. Of course, you can ride with one of the big dogs in David Pastrnak (10G, 10A) or Brad Marchand (6G, 7A), but they come with a hefty price. Instead, I’ll go with their linemate, Pavel Zacha. The Czech forward is off to a decent start this year, adding four goals and five assists. He also gets time on the main power play, which takes on a Montreal PK that’s 22nd (75.44%).

W1: Brock Boeser ($6,500 DK, $7,300 FD)

The Canucks are also getting big-time production from their second line, which features the trio of J.T. Miller (8G, 12A), Phillip Di Giuseppe (2G, 4A), and Brock Boeser (11G, 5A). I’ll add Boeser to the lineup tonight considering he’s leading the club in scoring. He also slots in on the top power-play unit alongside Pettersson and the craft Quinn Hughes (5G, 16A). Once again, Vancouver (32.65% PP) will have a favorable matchup against a Toronto PK that’s killing off just 72.73% of their penalties (27th).

W2: Martin Necas ($5,300 DK, $5,200 FD)

One hypothesis many people had entering the new campaign was to fade the Lightning while they’re without Andrei Vasilevskiy. And, so far, Tampa Bay has been the sixth-worst team in terms of goals against per game (3.36).

The Bolts will host the Hurricanes tonight, and this is a Carolina offense that’s scoring 3.3 goals per game (12th). Martin Necas has been one of the main producers for the Canes this season, ranking second in scoring (5G, 6A). He’s ripping shots on net constantly, ranking third in that category (35 SOG).

W3: Andrew Mangiapane ($4,500 DK, $4,700 FD)

The final winger that I’ll play is Calgary’s Andrew Mangiapane. The top-line winger added an assist in last night’s 5-4 shootout loss against the Maple Leafs. That brought him to eight points this year (4G, 4A), where he leads the Flames.

Mainly, giving Mangiapane the nod tonight is all about the matchup. The Senators are ranked just 29th in goals against per game (3.50) and sit in 28th in expected goals against per 60 minutes during 5-on-5 play (2.81). This Flames offense, which scored four goals last night, should have another decent outing in Canada’s capital city.

D1: Filip Hronek ($4,300 DK, $5,600 FD)

The final Canuck that I’ll add tonight is Filip Hronek. The defenseman is often overshadowed by his partner, Quinn Hughes. However, he’s not too far off his pace this season, notching 14 points, which have all come via the assist. Hronek’s leading the team in TOI (23:53) and still has 22 SOG, despite not being able to find the back of the net.

D2: Brady Skjei ($3,800 DK, $4,800 FD)

The best production for the Hurricanes this season from defensemen has come from Brady Skjei, who has 11 points (2G, 9A). At just $3,800, he makes an excellent cheap option to round out our defensive core. The 29-year-old also leads the team in TOI, racking up 20:50 of ice time per contest.

G: Alexandar Georgiev ($8,300 DK, $8,700 FD)

The goaltending choice tonight seems pretty straightforward, and it’s Colorado’s Alexandar Georgiev. He hasn’t been dominant this season with a 2.93 GAA (28th) and .897 SV% (40th), but he’ll have a great matchup to get back on track tonight. The Avs host the Blues, who are 30th in goals per game (2.3) and dead last on the power play (2.86%). This should be a big bounceback spot for the Russian netminder.

UTIL: Oliver Bjorkstrand ($4,400 DK, $5,100 FD)

Let’s round out the lineup with Oliver Bjorkstrand, who is off to a fine start this season. The right-winger has found his footing recently, and he’s up to 12 points (6G, 6A) to start the year.

But, like Mangiapane above, it’s all about the matchup tonight. The Kraken will host the Oilers, who are in absolute disarray on the defensive side of the ice. They’re 31st in goals against per game (4.08) and 30th on the PK (70.21%). Look for Bjorkstrand to have a big night against this underwhelming Oilers squad.
