2024 NFL Draft Risers & Fallers: Ray Davis, Troy Fautanu, Ja’Tavion Sanders

2024 NFL Draft Risers & Fallers: Ray Davis, Troy Fautanu, Ja’Tavion Sanders

With free agency starting to wind down, the football world has turned its attention back to the upcoming NFL Draft. Free agency allowed some teams to fill the holes on the rosters. However, it also created new holes for other teams.

Meanwhile, college pro days are underway. Some prospects have seen their draft stock improve or slip over the past few weeks. Let’s dive into six of those prospects.

2024 NFL Draft Guide

NFL Draft Stock Up

Ray Davis (RB – Kentucky)

The 2022 and 2023 NFL Draft classes had multiple outstanding running back prospects. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case this year. While Jonathon Brooks and Trey Benson are the top two running backs for most NFL Draft experts, the No. 3 spot is up for grabs. Davis’ stock is heading in the right direction. Reportedly, several NFL teams consider him a potential sleeper candidate. The former Kentucky star had 21 touchdowns last season. His physical running style with his receiving abilities could make him a late Day 2 pick.

Cooper Beebe (iOL – Kansas State)

NFL teams handed out big-money contracts to multiple guards in free agency. While the offensive tackle spots are the most critical to protecting the quarterback, the interior has become more important lately. However, some teams missed out on the expensive guard market and will fill their needs during the NFL Draft. Beebe reportedly interviewed well at the NFL Combine on top of his solid performance on the field. He will likely be a second-round pick and a high-level plug-and-play guard for the next decade.

Troy Fautanu (OL – Washington)

We could see eight offensive tackles drafted in the first round this year, including Fautanu. The former Washington star primarily played left tackle in college, surrendering only two sacks in 28 career starts. Yet, many NFL Draft nerds believe he can play anywhere on the offensive line. Fautanu had a strong performance on the field at the NFL Combine and put together an impressive athletic profile, including 34.5-inch arms. He was once considered a potential late first-round pick. Now, Fautanu could come off the board inside the top 15.

NFL Draft Stock Down

Keon Coleman (WR – Florida State)

Several wide receivers improved their draft stock at the NFL Combine. Unfortunately, someone has to fall down draft boards when others rise up. Coleman didn’t have an ideal performance in Indianapolis, running the second-slowest 40-yard dash among wide receivers (4.61). While he is a bigger wide receiver, that time will be a red flag for several teams. The former Florida State star already had concerns about his ability to separate. Coleman still could sneak into the first round but is more likely an early second-round selection.

Ja’Tavion Sanders (TE – Texas)

While athletic testing isn’t the most critical part of evaluating a prospect, it can severely impact a player’s draft stock. Sanders remains the No. 2 tight end in the draft class. However, that gap between him and Brock Bowers has widened. He had a disappointing performance at the NFL Combine, running a 4.69 40-yard dash. Sanders also didn’t shine during the on-the-field work either. Reportedly, some NFL scouts have concerns about his inconsistent production last season. Any chance Sanders had of being a first-round pick is likely gone.

Kalen King (CB – Penn State)

King was a potential first-round pick in way-too-early mock drafts from last May. Unfortunately, his draft stock has slid over the past several months. He had an up-and-down 2023 season at Penn State. Instead of shining during the NFL Combine, King struggled, running a disappointing 4.61 40-yard dash, the second-slowest among cornerbacks. However, he did improve his 40-time at Penn State’s pro day (4.52). Yet, many still have concerns about his top-end speed. King could end up being a Day 3 pick and transitioning to safety in the NFL.
