NBA DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer

NBA DFS Core Plays

Giannis Antetokounmpo (PF, C – MIL)

  • DraftKings: $11,700
  • FanDuel: $11,900

Giannis Antetokounmpo will cost you a pretty penny, but he is worth it. The “Greek Freak” leads all players on the board with 60.3 fantasy points per game while facing an opponent rank of 22nd.

Antetokounmpo rolled up a ridiculous 35 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists and two steals while hitting 16-of-23 from the field in 37 minutes at Utah last time out on Monday. He has 14 double-doubles and three triple-doubles across the past 17 games since December 14th in the NBA Cup semi-finals.

In January, Antetokounmpo has averaged 29.5 points per game, 13.2 rebounds per game and 5.7 assists per game in 13 games. Very rarely do you not get what you pay for when tabbing the Milwaukee superstar.

Alperen Sengun (C – HOU)

  • DraftKings: $9,000
  • FanDuel: $8,700

The 22-year-old Turkish big man narrowly missed a triple-double last time out at Boston on Monday, going for 11 points, nine rebounds and nine assists with two steals in 34 minutes despite a 4-of-10 shooting might. Alperen Sengun is averaging 18.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game across the past three games.

The Atlanta Hawks allow 118.5 points per game (PPG), while teams are hitting 47.6% from the field and 37.6% from behind the three-point line. Each of those marks is among the worst in the league, so Sengun and the Rockets should roll up some big offensive totals.

Damian Lillard (PG – MIL)

  • DraftKings: $8,700
  • FanDuel: $9,800

Damian Lillard returns to Portland where he starred for his first 11 seasons in the NBA before being traded to the Bucks in the offseason before the 2023-24 season. Lillard is running hot, going for 35 points with eight assists and five rebounds on 14-of-22 shooting Monday at Utah, while knocking down four three-pointers.

Lillard has scored 22+ points in 11 consecutive games. He has five or more rebounds in six of the past seven outings while going for eight or more assists in three straight and four of the past five contests.

NBA DFS Cash Game Targets

Collin Sexton (PG, SG – UTA)

  • DraftKings: $7,000
  • FanDuel: $6,300

At a mid-tier price, Collin Sexton is a strong play. In just 27 minutes against the Bucks on Monday, Sexton scored 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting and added five rebounds and four assists. He is averaging 21 points with 4.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game in 11 January contests.

Amen Thompson (PG, SF – HOU)

  • DraftKings: $8,000
  • FanDuel: $8,800

Amen Thompson might not be the answer to your prayers, but he is a strong option against the Hawks. You’ll want a Houston stack against the defensively challenged Hawks team allowing 118.5 PPG, especially on just a four-game slate.

Thompson is coming off a giant performance in Boston, as he dropped 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting while snapping up nine rebounds with four assists, a blocked shot and a steal. He is averaging 28 points, 11.5 rebounds and seven assists per game in the past two games.

Fred VanVleet (PG – HOU)

  • DraftKings: $7,400
  • FanDuel: $6,800

Sticking with the Houston stack theme, you’ll want Fred VanVleet in your lineup at a medium price. The 30-year-old veteran is coming off a stinker in Boston, going for just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting in 37 minutes.

Before that, though, he averaged 22 points with 3.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and two steals per game in the three previous games. From January 20th to January 25th, he knocked down a ridiculous 18 three-pointers. He has two or more triples in 10 consecutive outings.

NBA DFS GPP Targets

Bogdan Bogdanovic (SG, SF – ATL)

  • DraftKings: $4,800
  • FanDuel: $4,700

Bogdan Bogdanovic has a so-so matchup, but he is likely to see a much larger role than usual with Dyson Daniels (ankle), Jalen Johnson (shoulder), Larry Nance Jr. (hand) and Trae Young (adductor) likely to miss this game.

Bogdanovic managed just four points on 2-of-12 shooting last time out, but on Thursday against the Toronto Raptors, he went for 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting while hitting three triples in 32 minutes.

Anfernee Simons (PG, SG – POR)

  • DraftKings: $6,100
  • FanDuel: $6,400

Anfernee Simons hit just 3-of-10 from the field last time out against Oklahoma City, but he still went for 14 points with three assists, two rebounds and two three-pointers.

In the past five games, Simons is averaging 19.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and three assists per game, while hitting 18 three-pointers.

Guerschon Yabusele (PF, C – POR)

  • DraftKings: $6,000
  • FanDuel: $6,000

Guerschon Yabusele has been hindered by a knee injury, but if he can battle through the ailment he should be a strong performer. Joel Embiid (knee) and Andre Drummond (toe) are back on the shelf, which should open the door for plenty of Yabusele run and production.

PrizePicks $5 for $50

NBA DFS Value Plays

Garrison Mathews (SG – ATL)

  • DraftKings: $4,400
  • FanDuel: $3,800

Garrison Mathews, like Bogdanovic above, is likely to see an expanded role for the Hawks with several members of the first unit sidelined.

Mathews isn’t a big-time producer like Bogdanovic on the offense end, but he’ll post a handful of points and rebounds with an occasional blocked shot and steal. If you want to save salary to spend big money up top, he is a great value, especially on FanDuel.

Brandon Podziemski (PG, SG – GSW)

  • DraftKings: $3,900
  • FanDuel: $4,800

Brandon Podziemski has filled up the stat sheet in two games since returning from injury, averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 three-pointers made per game. At this price, he is a slam-dunk play and helps you afford star players with high salaries without losing much on the bottom end.

Moses Moody (SG, SF – GSW)

  • DraftKings: $3,900
  • FanDuel: $4,500

Moses Moody has been seeing plenty of playing time with Jonathan Kuminga on the shelf. He has six straight games with double-digit point totals. He’ll also rack up occasional assists, rebounds and a blocked shot or two.
