Sophomore Year (2022) – FCS Superstar & Efficiency Leader

  • Built on his strong freshman season, leading Jackson State to a dominant campaign.
  • Threw for 3,743 yards, 40 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, ranking top-10 in completion percentage (70.6%).
  • Fifth in the nation in passing TDs (40) despite dealing with 28 drops from his receivers (tied for 10th-most in the nation).
  • Showed improvement as a runner, posting 373 rushing yards and six rushing TDs.
  • Established himself as one of the best QBs in the FCS, leading to his transfer to Colorado.

Junior Year (2023) – Transition to Colorado

  • Followed his father to Colorado, adjusting to an increased level of competition.
  • Despite the step up in competition, maintained elite accuracy, throwing for 3,229 yards, 27 TDs, and just 3 INTs with a 68.5% completion rate.
  • One of the most efficient QBs in the country, showing excellent pocket presence and decision-making.
  • Mobility remained a factor, rushing for 379 yards and 4 TDs, though fumbles (5) were an issue.

Senior Year (2024) – Elite Accuracy & Pocket Poise

  • Final season cemented him as one of the most accurate QBs in college football.
  • 2nd in the nation in completion percentage (73.4%), throwing for 4,133 yards, 37 TDs, and 10 INTs.
  • Ranked 5th in the country in lowest turnover-worthy play rate, showing his NFL-caliber poise.
  • Continued to add value as a rusher, recording 305 rushing yards and 4 TDs, but still had seven fumbles.
  • Displayed high-level processing, anticipation, and pocket awareness, looking like a pro-ready QB.
  • That was despite him facing more dropbacks under pressure (204) than any other QB in college.
  • But his OL isn’t all too blame, as Sanders was responsible for 26% of his pressures faced (one of the highest rates in the class).

Career Summary

  • 14,337 career passing yards, 134 TDs, and just 27 INTs over four seasons and 50 games played
  • 69.6% career completion percentage, showing elite accuracy and efficiency.
  • His 74% completion rate in 2024 at Colorado ranked 6th all-time.
  • His 72% career completion rate in the FBS ranks No. 1 all-time (since 1956).
  • 1,339 career rushing yards & 17 rushing TDs, proving he’s a capable but selective runner.
  • Averaged 26.8 rushing yards per game and 5.2 attempts (mostly scrambles).
  • Some turnover concerns (31 career fumbles), but elite decision-making as a passer.
  • Throws well on the run and excels at “backyard football.”

NFL Projection & Player Comparison

  • NFL Comp: Baker Mayfield – A highly accurate, poised passer with great pocket presence and sneaky mobility.
  • Draft Projection: Top-10 pick – A starting-caliber NFL QB with strong mechanics, elite accuracy, and natural leadership.

Cam Ward (QB – Miami)

Age at Draft: 23 | Height/Weight: 6’2″, 223 lbs

  • Won the Jerry Rice Award, given to the most outstanding freshman player in the FCS.

Sophomore Year (2021) – FCS Superstar

  • Decided to transfer to Washington State, making the jump to Power Five football.

Junior & Senior Years (2022-2023) – Adjusting Washington State

  • Had modest success in his first two seasons at Wazzu, showing flashes but lacking consistency.
  • 2022: Passed for 3,228 yards, 23 TDs, and 9 INTs in his first Power Five season.
  • 2023: Improved slightly, throwing for 3,723 yards, 25 TDs, and 7 INTs.
  • Turnover issues began to creep in.
  • Initially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft but later transferred to Miami for his final year.

Final Season (2024) – Breakout Star & Record-Breaker at Miami

  • Exploded in his lone season at Miami, throwing for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 7 INTs.
  • Broke the NCAA Division I record for career passing TDs (158) in Miami’s bowl game but sat out the second half, drawing criticism despite his reasoning to stay healthy for the draft.
  • Ranked 2nd in the 2024 QB draft class in big-time throws per PFF.
  • But he also ranked 6th in turnover-worthy plays, reinforcing his gunslinger mentality.
  • To quote my colleague, Derek Brown, “Ward never saw a tight window he thought he couldn’t make.”

Career Summary

  • 57 career games played
  • 18,135 career passing yards, 158 TDs, and 37 INTs, making him one of the most productive passers in NCAA history.

Freshman Year (2021) – Redshirt Season Behind Bryce Young

  • Redshirted as a true freshman while backing up future No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young.
  • Saw very limited action, attempting seven passes for 41 yards and rushing 13 times for 66 yards.

Sophomore Year (2022) – Backup With Flashes of Playmaking Ability

  • Still dominant as a rusher, logging 879 yards and 20 rushing TDs, proving his elite red-zone rushing ability.
  • Fumbled 11 more times, continuing a concerning trend of turnover issues.

Career Summary

  • 6,011 passing yards, 45 TDs, and 20 INTs with a career 63.7% completion percentage.
  • 2,038 rushing yards and 33 rushing TDs, averaging 75.5 rushing yards per game on nearly 12 carries per game.
  • Elite dual-threat weapon but slow field processing and inconsistent pocket presence.
  • Monster fantasy football ceiling due to his rushing ability, similar to Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields.
  • Ball security concerns, logging 29 fumbles in his career.
  • Struggled against better defenses. According to NFL.com, he threw five touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2024 SEC play.

NFL Projection & Player Comparison

  • NFL Comp: Justin Fields / Jalen Hurts – Elite rushing ability with big-play potential, but needs to develop as a pocket passer.
  • Draft Projection: Round 2-4 – High-upside explosive QB with elite athleticism.

Jaxson Dart (QB- Ole Miss)

Age at Draft: 22 (Turns 22 in May) | Height/Weight: 6’2″, 226 lbs
Career Passing Yards: 11,964 | Career Rushing Yards: 1,981
NFL Comparison: Jimmy Garoppolo

Freshman Year (2021) – USC Debut & Early Flashes

  • Started three games and appeared in six total as a true freshman at USC.
  • Showed pocket escapability, posting an 8.2% pressure-to-sack rate (3rd-lowest in the nation).
  • Threw for 1,351 yards, 9 TDs, and 5 INTs while rushing for 66 yards and 2 TDs.
  • Transferred to Ole Miss in 2022 after USC brought in Caleb Williams to take over as QB1.

Sophomore Year (2022) – First Year as Ole Miss QB1

  • Took over as Lane Kiffin’s starting QB.
  • Threw for 2,974 yards, 20 TDs, and 11 INTs while rushing for 699 yards and 1 rushing TD.
  • Sub-10% pressure-to-sack rate, proving his ability to extend plays and avoid negative plays.
  • Flashed his tactical scrambling ability, making plays outside the pocket while staying pass-first.

Junior Year (2023) – Significant Improvement & Efficiency Boost

  • Took a big step forward, ranking as PFF’s 7th-highest graded QB in the FBS.
  • 9th in the nation in yards per attempt (9.3), showing his ability to stretch the field.
  • Passed for 3,363 yards, 23 TDs, and just 5 INTs while rushing for 568 yards and 8 TDs.
  • Proved to be an effective downfield thrower and one of the most improved QBs in the country.

Senior Year (2024) – Best Year & National Leader in Deep Passing

  • 11,964 career passing yards, 81 TDs, 27 INTs, with a 64.9% career completion rate.
  • 1,981 career rushing yards, 14 rushing TDs, averaging 48.3 rushing yards per game on 8.2 attempts per game. Two fewer designed runs than Jalen Milroe (albeit in more games played).
  • More of a tactical scrambler. Dart won’t be a dual threat at the next level but do enough as a rusher. College rushing numbers were similar to Daniel Jones.
  • Strong leadership qualities and competitive toughness, widely respected in the locker room.
  • Gimmicky college scheme and deep ball reliance under Lane Kiffin means his NFL transition could take time.
  • 53% of his dropbacks were play action in 2024. No NFL team had higher than 36% play action rate in 2024.
  • New age NFL game doesn’t necessarily lend itself to be a deep passing bonanza like in college.
  • Deep balls often lack juice and float to receivers.
  • Up-and-down performance and mixed reviews from the Senior Bowl.
  • Per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz: “Here’s some fun feedback on Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart, from a longtime NFL scout: “He’s gonna be a major steal in the draft. Throws the ball down the field as well as anyone, which I realize is kinda this lost skill in today’s game, but that’s what makes him so interesting. Get Dart a couple of speed guys, and he can really hurt you.”

NFL Projection & Player Comparison

  • NFL Comps: Jimmy Garoppolo (mid-range), Justin Herbert (high-end), Brock Purdy (bigger).
  • Draft Projection: Round 1 – A strong-armed passer with NFL traits, but will need time to develop in a more complex offensive system. Would love to see him the Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay style offense, etc.
