It’s early in the offseason, and plenty can change before we start to accumulate fantasy points for the 2025 fantasy football season. Still, drafts are happening on best ball platforms, and every day is a good day for a dynasty startup draft.
If you’re drafting today, though, several quarterbacks look like poor value compared to their peers and are players we might want to avoid unless things change for the better for them.

Quarterbacks To Avoid (2025 Fantasy Football)
Anthony Richardson (QB – IND)
As things stand, the likelihood that Anthony Richardson starts over 10 games for the Colts this year seems tough to predict. Between Richardson’s injuries and year-two benching, he’s combined for only 15 games across his first two seasons.
According to many reports, Richardson lacked the focus and attention to detail that NFL teams expect from their starting quarterbacks. That, combined with a woefully inadequate 47.7% completion rate, leads to question marks over his future.
With free agency imminent, the Colts are routinely being linked with Daniel Jones, who is hardly the epitome of a good quarterback play. Still, he has more NFL experience than Richardson and has never been benched for anything but on-field play. It’s noteworthy that Jones wouldn’t require a dramatic shift from the play style under Richardson, with Jones also being a dual-threat.
Richardson averaged the third-most rushing yards per game (45.4), but his poor passing resulted in him finishing QB15 or worse in all but three games last year. It’s hard to imagine that he makes such a big third-year leap that he solidifies his job and becomes a valuable fantasy football starter.
The Vikings and Colts are expected to be the leading contenders to sign Daniel Jones, per source.

Patrick Mahomes (QB – KC)
Between 2018 and 2022, Patrick Mahomes was a top-four fantasy QB in four of those five seasons before dropping to QB8 in 2023 and then QB12 in 2024. The key factor that changed after the 2022 season was the return of offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. This, combined with the loss of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce declining in play, has led to Mahomes rarely being a top-end fantasy producer in the last two seasons.
During those two seasons, Mahomes has hit the 20-fantasy point mark in 25% of his games and only surpassed 300 yards in seven of the 32 games. The Chiefs seem content to wear opponents down and rely heavier on their defense than ever before, making it a poor environment for fantasy football.
With three consecutive trips to the Super Bowl behind them, why would they change? Mahomes still has a lot of value attached to his name because he is the best quarterback in football. However, he’s far from the best for fantasy football.
C.J. Stroud (QB – HOU)
From 2023 Rookie of the Year to a complete disappointment in 2024, the price you’ll have to pay for C.J. Stroud might be considerably lower in 2025. Still, is that worth attacking?
Stroud has almost definitely lost Tank Dell for the entirety of the 2025 season after he tore multiple ligaments and dislocated his kneecap in Week 16. His ACL was so swallowed they were only able to repair that at the end of February. Even if Dell were returning from just an ACL injury, he might have struggled to turn things around that quickly, let alone with the rest of the damage.
Stefon Diggs is currently a free agent after tearing his ACL at the end of October, and his path back at age 31 is not straightforward either. The Texans traded for Christian Kirk at a bargain price of a seventh-round pick, but Kirk himself has struggled with health over the last two years, playing 12 games in 2023 and seven in 2024. Perhaps the offensive coordinator change helps Stroud become more fantasy-relevant. However, through 30 career fantasy-relevant games, he’s only hit 20 points in 20% of them, making it challenging to believe he has what it takes to be a week-winning quarterback consistently.

Jordan Love (QB – GB)
The 2023 season was a fantastic first year for Jordan Love as the Packers’ starter after a very truncated wait for his opportunity. However, 2024 was far less fun. The Packers were the second-most run-heavy team in the league, rushing on 49.3% of offensive plays. They also led the league in rushing during the first half of games and in neutral scripts.
Love finished the year with only two weekly finishes inside the top 10, with only three games at 20 points or higher. The Packers’ strength in numbers at the wide receiver position didn’t translate to fantasy, with nobody separating themselves or proving a true difference-maker. Christian Watson‘s torn ACL that he suffered on Jan. 5 also has the potential to linger well into the 2025 season.
On top of this, Love’s rushing production dropped from the low number of 15.5 yards per game in 2023 to only 5.4 in 2024, making it even harder for him to compete with quarterbacks that offer some rushing floor.
It could be another bland season for the Packers’ quarterback unless Love gets a serious upgrade among his pass-catchers.
