We are back with the latest edition of the Closer Report. We are seeing some slight changes in this second official chart as we’re now one week into the season. Like last week, it is still early and many situations are fluid, but we are seeing some bullpens become a little clearer, while others are still waiting to get healthy.
It is important not to overreact too heavily to the closer situation as a whole, but you do want to continue to monitor certain situations in fantasy baseball, as new closers can get swooped off the waiver wire quickly. Here is a look at where everything stands one week into the season. Check out our updated fantasy baseball closer rankings as well as who’s rising and who’s falling in value.

News & Notes
Luke Jackson is the MLB leader through one week with four saves. He has tossed four straight clean appearances after struggling on Opening Day. In what appeared to be an open situation heading into the season, Jackson has taken a clear hold of the closer role in the Rangers’ bullpen as of now.
Five closers sit behind Jackson with three saves. One is Andres Munoz, who has thrown four scoreless innings to open the season. He has gotten off to a fast start after going through some struggles last year. The Mariners are expecting to get Matt Brash back in the mix by the end of April, but that should be in a set-up role. Munoz will remain the primary closer.
The big news in the closer world was the Pirates optioning David Bednar to the Minors. The struggles from last season and this year in spring training carried over into the start of the regular season. Before it got worse, Pirates manager Derek Shelton elected to option him. He’ll look to regain some confidence with Triple-A Indianapolis in the meantime. Dennis Santana got the first save chance and appears to have the edge in that role as of now.
Felix Bautista worked hard in his first two appearances of the season after Tommy John surgery, throwing a combined 48 pitches. As a result, he has not made an appearance since March 31st. Bautista should continue to be slowly worked back to full strength.
