3 Dynasty Rookie Sleepers: Quarterbacks (2025 Fantasy Football)

From a dynasty perspective, the quarterback position for the 2025 rookie class is rather underwhelming. We saw Cam Ward go first overall to the Tennessee Titans, followed by 23 consecutive non-quarterback picks before the New York Giants selected Jaxson Dart 25th overall. Ward may be the only quarterback in this draft class who is locked into a Week 1 starting role in 2025, which has resulted in these quarterbacks getting pushed down the board in Superflex drafts, making them dynasty rookie sleepers to consider.

With so many dynasty owners fading quarterbacks, there’s an opportunity to grab a few names at a clear value. I’ll provide some real data from my dynasty Superflex rookie drafts thus far to give you an idea of average draft position (ADP). Let’s dive in and discuss my favorite quarterback dynasty rookie sleepers in this year’s draft class.

Dynasty Rookie Sleepers: Quarterbacks

Tyler Shough (QB – NO)

To the surprise of many, Tyler Shough was the third quarterback off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft, landing with the New Orleans Saints at pick 40 overall. With Derek Carr‘s shoulder injury putting his 2025 availability in question, Shough could be the man under center for the Saints to start the year.

I understand the concerns with Shough. He’s already 25 years old, coming off a seven-year college career. He has limited rushing upside, averaging just 3.3 fantasy points per game on the ground. He also has a lengthy injury history.

However, early second-round draft capital, combined with the quarterback uncertainty in New Orleans, is enough to be excited about Shough in Superflex. New Saints head coach Kellen Moore is especially bullish on his new rookie quarterback, and his comments on Carr this offseason have been ambiguous.

I’ve seen Shough go as late as the 4.01 (37th overall) in one of my dynasty Superflex rookie drafts, and he’s consistently available in the early third. I’ve seen Shedeur Sanders, Will Howard and even Dillon Gabriel go ahead of Shough. This is mind-boggling. Shough may not have top-12 upside at his position, but he has a good shot to start in Year 1. That alone provides you with legitimate trade value, if nothing else.

Will Howard (QB – PIT)

Expert consensus rankings (ECR) are even higher than I am on Will Howard, ranked as the 35th overall Superflex prospect versus my 42nd overall ranking. His value has been all over the place in my dynasty rookie drafts, going as early as 2.10 in one league and undrafted through four rounds in another. In general, though, I’ve seen him fall to the fourth round, where I’d be comfortable taking a shot on Howard.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently sitting with a quarterback room of Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Skylar Thompson. One would assume Pittsburgh will bring in a veteran quarterback this offseason to lead the way in 2025. Aaron Rodgers is a heavy favorite if he doesn’t retire, and there have even been rumors that Will Levis could be headed to the Steel City.

That said, if the Steelers don’t sign a veteran and head into Week 1 with Rudolph as their starter, Pittsburgh fans will call for Howard to take over as soon as things don’t go Rudolph’s way. I was pretty indifferent about Howard as a prospect heading into the NFL, but this landing spot gives him an outside shot to prove himself as a starting NFL quarterback.

Riley Leonard (QB – IND)

We’re digging to China for this final sleeper. You probably won’t have to spend any draft capital to acquire Riley Leonard this offseason. I’ve yet to see him selected in any of my four-round dynasty rookie drafts, and he can typically be acquired for a small waiver wire FAAB bid post-draft.

Leonard has a below-average arm and relied heavily on his legs to move the chains in college. He struggles to fit the ball into tight windows and is an inconsistent passer in the second and third levels. But he’s a leader by nature, his positive attitude is infectious and he feels like a player the locker room would rally behind if he ever got a starting shot.

Just look at this Indianapolis depth chart. They have Anthony Richardson, the inexperienced, raw athlete, hanging on to his starting role by a thread. They also have Daniel Jones, the six-year veteran who has proved time and time again he can’t hack it as a starting quarterback.

I’m not saying Leonard is a better player than these two, but he may end up seeing some starts by default if Richardson and Jones can’t find a way to piece it together. On the off chance Leonard does see the field, he has the rushing upside to be an intriguing Superflex option. And you know the city of Indianapolis loves this kid, coming from Notre Dame, where he led the Irish to the College Football Playoff Championship game.

Grab Leonard after your rookie draft with a small FAAB bid if you have the taxi squad space. I wouldn’t waste a bench spot on him, but if you have the space, it’s worth grabbing Leonard while we wait and see how this quarterback room shapes up.
