The best players in the world play on NFBC. The most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which has a $1,750 buy-in with a $7,000 league prize and a $200,000 overall prize. Thankfully, for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB pickups on Sunday night.
Each week, I look at the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire and FAAB pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them.

Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups
Gunnar Hoglund was picked up in 57 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $169 and a minimum bid of $18. Hoglund made his Major League debut last week and pitched well, throwing six solid innings versus the Marlins. He allowed one run on six hits and no walks while striking out seven in the victory.
Hoglund has shown great command and control in the Minors, but hasn’t been a big strikeout guy. He has the talent to be a good mid-rotation arm for fantasy, but pitching in Sacramento is a challenge, even for seasoned pitchers. Things will only get more difficult as it heats up in Northern California.
Javier Baez was picked up in 31 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $300 and a minimum bid of $19. Baez has been great and there are some underlying skills improvements, but a .382 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) props up his .309 average. He is heading to Colorado, so there may be some delay in the regression monster coming for him, but it will likely come after that.
Tony Gonsolin was picked up in 46 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $313 and a minimum pick up of $77. Gonsolin had a decent first start back from the injured list (IL) versus the Marlins and will get another start against them this week, but the stuff was underwhelming.
The velocity was not near where it had been pre-injury and his command was a bit spotty at times. Gonsolin is worth streaming this week, but we need to see better stuff to be confident he can regain his previous form.
Coby Mayo was picked up in 50 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $167 and a minimum bid of $12. Mayo is a top power-hitting prospect for the Orioles who was called up last week. He has struggled in his previous Major League stints.
The Orioles have not been patient with their prospects because they are trying to win, but Mayo should have at least a couple of weeks to show he belongs, and there is a ton of power upside if he can make enough contact.

Zach Agnos was picked up in 49 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $117 and a minimum bid of $1. Agnos has entered the Rockies’ closer carousel by registering their last two saves. He has yet to allow a run or a walk so far, which is extremely impressive, but he has also only struck out one hitter in his 7.1 innings.
That said, Agnos has shown good command and control in the Minors, and the strikeout stuff is there. There won’t be a lot of wins for him to save in Colorado, but he could get the majority of the saves available in the Mile High City.
Romy Gonzalez was picked up in 47 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $125 and a minimum bid of $1. With Triston Casas likely out for the season and potentially longer, Gonzalez seems to be the likely in-house option to play first base right now.
Gonzalez has multi-position eligibility. While he doesn’t have a ton of upside, he can add a lot of flexibility and accumulate until the Red Sox figure out a different option at first.
With Justin Martinez joining fellow closer A.J. Puk on the IL, the Diamondbacks need a closer. Kevin Ginkel was picked up in 43 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $177 and a minimum bid of $1.
Ginkel will compete with Shelby Miller and Ryan Thompson for saves and could be the guy they turn to in the most high-leverage spots. I would bet on Miller to get the majority of the saves, but Ginkel should factor in a bunch.
